2 ALLITERATION Example: Double “C” – Coco for Coco Puffs
1.) The repetition of consonant (everything except a vowel) letters. Example: Double “C” – Coco for Coco Puffs Example: Double “P”- Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers. 2.) Poetry, tongue twisters, advertisements, and in most literature.

3 PERSONIFICATION Example: A rock is non-human
1.) Something non-human is given human characteristics. Example: A rock is non-human Example: Cry is a human characteristic. Example: The rock cried during the sad movie. 2.) Science fiction, fantasy, movies, and books. It is also seen in poetry.

4 STEREOTYPE 1.) Oversimplified opinion or image of a person or group of people. Example: The student who went to Harvard is a “bookworm”. Example: The author portrays the student as a bookworm simply because he/she goes to an Ivy League school. 2.) Authors often stereotype characters so that they are easy to categorize.

5 GENRE 1.) A type of category of literature or film marked by certain features. Example: Mystery- death, red- herrings, clues, suspects, several characters, detectives, murders, wills, money, motive, etc.

6 SIMILE Example: Tommy’s smile is like sunshine.
1.) A figure of speech when two un-like things are compared using, “like” or “as”. Example: Tommy’s smile is like sunshine. Example: Tommy’s smile is being compared to sunshine using “like”.

7 METAPHOR 1.) A figure of speech when two un-like things are compared without using “like or as”. Example: “When Michelle runs during a track meet, she is a jet.” Example: Michelle’s running is being compared to the quickness of a jet. It’s done without using like or as.
