Why? Big investments in classification - interest in using the full pontential Browsing – taking advantage of the hierarchical structure of DDC Searching – providing verbal access

For who? Main target groups: Users with no previous experience of DDC
Reference librarians with little or no previous experience of DDC Important also for librarians with little or no previous experience of DDC Important for cataloguers

WebDewey Search Developed by Pansoft
Partners: Pansoft, National Library of Sweden, National Library of Norway, Deutsche Nationalbibliothek and OCLC National Library of Sweden first to implement Experiences from MelivilSearch and the Swedish Ämnesträdet, based on the Swedish classification system SAB. One single library catalogue or multiple

Dewey data: Numbers, Captions, See refrences, Index entries Number of hits crawled from the library catalogue(s) To see the bibliographical records, one moves to the catalogue(s)

Future work (1) Improvement of the search tool
Improvement of the DDC data API to embedd in other web services or catalogues Integrate more in the search tool: Subject heading mappings, for example Svenska ämnesord (SAO) Mappings to other classification schemes, for example SAB Support for DDC numbers from previous editions using the history data

Future work (2) DDC behind the scene
Using DDC numbers, other subject data, mappings between different classification systems and subject heading langugages to improve subject access in new and innovative ways. Seamless and invisible
