1. Jesus was forgiving

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. – John 3:17

All the prophets testify about (Jesus) that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His Name. – Acts 10:43

2. Jesus commands us to forgive each other

And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.’ – Mark 11:25

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.– Matthew 6:14,15

For a Christian, forgiveness is not an option, it is compulsory

We forgive others in response to God’s love for us and His forgiveness towards us

3. How do we become forgiving?

Forgiveness is not a feeling, it is an act of love

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him. – 1 John 5:14,15

Forgiveness must not depend on the other person

It is more blessed to give than to receive. – Acts 20:35

Forgiveness blesses the forgiver even more than it blesses the forgiven
