Gravity
2
Gravitational Force The force of attraction between two objects due to their mass The more mass an object has the more gravitational pull it has The earth, because it’s so massive, has a large gravitational pull on all objects on earth Near the surface of the earth objects accelerate towards the earth at 9.8 m/s/s
4
Gravity always acts towards the center of an object
5
Mass vs. Weight Mass is the amount of MATTER within an object
Weight is a force due to the acceleration of gravity on an object with mass Weight= Mass X Acceleration (9.8 m/s/s) Your weight can change if your in a place with less gravity On a different planet or in outer space where there is no gravity then there is no weight! BUT… there is still mass! An astronaut still will have mass in outer space, thank goodness otherwise they would disappear!
6
Gravity relates to Distance too!
The further objects are from each other the less the force of gravity is between the objects Kind of like magnets the further you pull magnets apart the less you feel the magnetic force The moon is large but you don’t feel yourself being pulled towards it because you are so far away But we do see some affect of the moon on our earth and that is in the ocean tides
