Gravity Gravity is a force that acts between any two masses Earth’s gravity acts downward toward the center of Earth Gravity does not require objects to be in contact with for it to act on them

Falling Objects Gravity and air resistance affect the motion of falling objects Gravity causes objects to accelerate downward Air resistance acts in the direction opposite to the gravitational motion and can slow down the acceleration of a falling object

Falling objects cont. Let’s say that we were to eliminate all air resistance…. A falling object would fall at a rate of 9.81 m/s2

Projectile Motion This is the curved path an object takes through the air after being given a velocity

The combination of forward velocity and the downward force of gravity and air resistance causes the object to have a curved path
