Visiting moderation for performance assessment Moderation by post for performance analysis assessment Expect performances to be repeatable, ie expect performances at moderation to justify marks awarded Audio-visual evidence has to be made for any assessment/activity that cannot be replicated at live moderation Schools/colleges have to make audio-visual recording of the moderation visit This is so that schools/colleges can challenge the outcome of moderation Will not know the outcome of moderation until results day Copyright © AQA and its licensors. 6 Moderation - GCSE Your moderator will come and see:
At least one team and one individual activity per centre. Centres with less than 10 candidates - all students seen Centres with candidates - 10 students seen Centres with students seen Each student selected will be seen in one activity only for parts 1,2 and 3 The moderator will request the A and E tasks for the candidates they have seen on the day of the moderation.

7 NEA Part 3 (A and E task) Students are required to analyse and evaluate a performance to identify two strengths and two weaknesses. They then need to produce an action plan that suggests ways to improve upon the two weaknesses that they have identified. Students are required to analyse and evaluate a performance in one activity from the specification.

8 NEA Part 3 Students can analyse and evaluate their own performance or the performance of another person, so long as it is in an activity that is from the specification. Students can choose to analyse and evaluate their own performance in an activity (from the specification) that they have not used as one of their three NEA practical marks. Students can choose to complete their Part 3 verbally as an interview or as a written piece of work. If it is completed verbally, then it must be evidenced by an audio-visual recording, which must be available for moderation. For verbal interviews, it is ok for students to bring in brief notes to assist. Teachers should avoid leading questions. Open-ended questions should be used.

9 NEA Part 3 Feedback and Control - section 4.1 of JCQs instructions fro administering NEA Candidates do not need to be directly supervised at all times. The use of the resources, including the internet is not tightly prescribed….. the centre must ensure that: There is sufficient supervision of every candidate to enable work to be authenticated; the work that an individual candidate submits for assessment is his/ her own. Work may be completed outside of the centre without direct supervision, provided that the centre is confident that the work produced is the candidate’s own.

10 NEA Part 3 What advice and feedback can you give? Content v Process
Unless specifically prohibited by the awarding body’s specification you may: • Review candidates’ work and provide oral and written advice at a general level; NB. This refers to general aspects of the process, not specific elements of content. • Having provided advice at a general level, allow candidates to revise and re-draft work.. General advice of this nature does not need to be recorded or taken into account when the work is marked. However….

11 Failure to follow this procedure constitutes malpractice
NEA Part 3 If you give any assistance which goes beyond general advice, for example: -provide detailed specific advice on how to improve drafts to meet the assessment criteria; -give detailed feedback on errors and omissions which limits candidates’ opportunities to show initiative themselves; -intervene personally to improve the presentation or content of work; then you must record this assistance and either take it into account when marking the work or submit it to the external examiner. Annotation should be used to explain how marks were applied in the context of the additional assistance given. (See section 6.1, page 15 of the JCQ document). You must not provisionally assess work and then allow the candidate to revise it. Failure to follow this procedure constitutes malpractice
