Respect Yourself pt. 2 Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works and in your teaching show integrity, dignity. Titus 2:7

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Respect is defined in the following way: “To feel or show deferential regard for; esteem; to regard with honor; an attitude of admiration or esteem.” Knowing this, we can conclude that self- respect means to esteem or honor the self.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 What are some ways that we can show respect ?

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Respect Yourself-Staple Singers
You disrespect anybody that you run into; How in the world do you thing anybody’s supposed to respect you. Respect yourself, Respect yourself. If you don’t respect yourself ain’t nobody gonna give a good cahoot. Respect yourself

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Respect Yourself-Staple Singers
You the kind of gentleman, that wants everything your way. Take the sheet of your face. It’s a brand new day. If your walking around, thinking that the world owes you something because you’re here. Your going out the world backwards, like you did when you first came here. Respect yourself.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.  14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Gal. 5:13-14

Respect Yourself pt. 2 15 But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another. 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. Gal. 5:15-16 (NASB)

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Are psychologists correct?
Is this what the Bible teaches? Is there a right or wrong way to respect yourself? Let’s talk about the incident with the shooting. How should we responds as Christians?

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Many of the world’s top psychologists, as well as other so-called experts, teach that in order to overcome this problem, one should learn to respect himself. They assert that the reason such people are unhappy is because they are too focused on helping others and not taking care of their own needs. These “experts” teach that respecting others is impossible without first learning to respect yourself.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Self-respect seems to be the medication prescribed for people who have “low self-esteem.” As the result of a broken spirit, many people lack confidence or esteem. Some were verbally abused as children; others have endured insults from a spouse, friend or boss. Whatever the reason, the person feels inferior to those around him.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Self Respect is not problem unless we are always focused on ourselves what we didn’t get, who hasn’t noticed us who has infringed on our rights who didn’t give us respect, etc.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 There is no lack of self-love in our world. The command to “love your neighbor as yourself” is essentially telling us to treat other people as well as we treat ourselves. Scripture never commands us to love ourselves; it assumes we already do. In fact, people in their unregenerate condition love themselves too much—that becomes our problem.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 The statement “love your neighbor as yourself” is not a command to love yourself. It is natural and normal to love yourself—it is our default position.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Biblical love is selfless and unconditional, whereas the world’s love is characterized by selfishness. Love does not exist apart from God and that true love can only be experienced by one who has experienced God’s own love firsthand

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Romans 13:9–10, “The commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not covet,’ and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”

Respect Yourself pt. 2 Part of the definition of respect is to have an attitude of admiration or esteem for others and yourself. Constantly putting yourself before others— elevating your wants, your feelings and your desires—is wrong and is in direct conflict with God’s Word. It feeds the ego (Edging God Out), and there is nothing humble about that!

Respect Yourself pt. 2 How the Word Says-Respect Authority
3. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer

Respect Yourself pt. 2 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Rom. 13:3-7

Respect Yourself pt. 2 12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 1 Thess. 5:12-13 7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Heb. 13:7-8

Respect Yourself pt. 2 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”— which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Eph. 6:1-3

Respect Yourself pt. 2 You belong to God. You are His temple.
You should respect yourself and your body as you are the child of the living God. When one shows respect to self, it should be in the framework of respecting the God who created you.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 You can show respect to God by how you live— respect the final product that you will be. Be renewed day by day. You can respect the fact that the Holy Spirit is working with you and the fact that you have the potential to be everything God called you to be. You can respect the work that God wants to do in you. Respect the fact that you are clay in His hands.

Respect Yourself pt. 2 It is also wrong to “beat yourself up” over sins and weaknesses. If you make a mistake, it would be wrong to have this kind of inner talk: “You idiot! How could you be so stupid? I have to be the dumbest person in the world!” God says to call no man a fool, including yourself: “…Respect Yourself-Repent and get it right.
