1 FP2020 Reference Group Priority actions for 2016
Progress on Commitments Addition of 8 million additional users from 2012 to 2015 Allocation of 1.3 billion USD for Family Planning from 2012 to 2015. 30% additional funding for the hard to reach and difficult areas Expansion of Contraceptive Basket of Choices Country wide dissemination of New Media Campaign Launch of New Contraceptive Packaging to influence the demand for contraceptives Launch of Social Franchising Scheme to tap private sector Constitution of Mobile teams (for provision of FP services) equipped with medical and paramedical staff. Notes: Roll-out of three new contraceptive options: injectables, progesterone only pills (POPs) and Ormeloxifene (non-hormonal weekly pill: centchroman – Indian brand) in the public health system. At present, India is in the process of rolling out injectables once the branding and packaging for the injectables is finalized. Current status: waiting for GoI to provide a waiver to finalize both the outer packaging labeling and the inside labeling of the vial. No lead time provided for when this will finalized during the FP call… Scaling up national logistics management information system (LMIS) for contraceptives Status update: Scaling up of the LMIS – in the process of scaling up in Rajasthan state. Since health is a state subject, not all states are interested in developing an LMIS just for contraceptives. Developing LMIS aligns well with the global priority of strengthening supply chains and effective data utilization. Availability of LMIS data will allow decision makers to determine: when to order, how much to order, total consumption, and available stock. Having a robust LMIS will lead itself to effective logistics data utilization. National family planning communication campaign for changing social norms and bringing visibility to family planning programming A communication package was launched at the summit with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador. The package consists of short films, audio spots and posters with messages targeting various members in the family. The FP communication package emphasized on age at marriage, delaying and spacing of births and responsibilities of both partners and the family in family planning. Rebranding and repackaging public sector commodities to make them more appealing to the consumers.. June 29-30, 2016 Reference Group meeting, London
