1 Living Wise Warm-ups!

2 Warm-up #1 Explain how today we are drinking the same water that Dinosaurs drank millions of years ago? If the hydrologic cycle (water cycle) replaces all the water loss on Earth why do we talk about saving water? Why is it important to reduce, reuse and recycle.

3 What % of Earth’s water is available for human use?
Warm up #2 What % of Earth’s water is available for human use? What watershed do we live in? Explain the path that runoff takes in our watershed. Why is cleaning up after your dog so important?

4 Warm-up # 3 Where does most of Los Angeles’ water come from?
What is an aqueduct and name one that brings water to LA? What is groundwater? How do we get water from underground? What is the flow rate of your shower? If you take a 10 minute shower how many gallons of water are you using?

5 Warm-up # 4 1. List 3 natural resources and 3 man made objects.
2. Label the following as renewable or nonrenewable. (no abbreviations) Fruit Plants Coal Wind Sun Gasoline Water Natural Gas 3. What are three fossil fuels from oldest to youngest?

6 Warm-up # 5 How are fossil fuels created and are they a renewable or nonrenewable resource? What are three ways to conserve natural gas in your home? Why do they add the rotten egg smell to natural gas? Is natural gas used to fuel your cars?

7 Warm-up # 6 What is the pathway water takes to your house?
What happens to the water that flows down your drains? What is an aquifer? What two natural resources are you using when you take a shower? Explain.

8 Warm-up # 7 What natural Resource is used to produce most of the electricity in California? What are the negative impacts of burning fossil fuels? Currently what are the two most common renewable natural resources used to produce electricity? What are 4 things you can do to conserve energy in your house?

9 Warm-up # 8 What is a phantom load?
What is the unit of measure for electricity consumption? Gas? What is demand? What non-renewable resources are used to generate electricity? Describe the pathway that runoff takes in our watershed?

10 Warm-up # 9 Describe the pathway from rain to your house then to the bay. What are the three aqueducts that bring water to L.A.? What is the main heating source for more than ½ of the homes in the U.S.? If you install the devices in your homes that came in the kit which 3 resources are you saving?

11 Warm-up #10 How is CCUSD doing it’s part to help the environment?
Can we use as much electricity at CCMS as we want? Why or Why not? What do you call energy that is produced by renewable resources?
