The Church God Wants Us to Be
In the New Testament, the original Greek word translated as church is ekklesia. There are three typical meanings: 1) an assembly ) a casual gathering of people; 3) people with a shared belief. Ekklesia is derived from a verb meaning: “to call out,” and the ekklesia has been described by some as the “called-out ones.” This term was also used by the Greco-Roman world to refer to a legislative body of leaders who gathered to make decisions on important matters.

It is also used in a secular way in Acts 19:39 to refer to a legislative assembly in Ephesus. The concept of God’s people as a group of called-out ones extends back to the Old Testament. In Acts 7:38, it is used to describe the congregation of Israel in the wilderness. Numbers 14:5-10 uses the Hebrew words qahal and edah, which are translated as assembly and congregation. The Jews would continue to assemble together in synogogues to rehearse the promises of God.

There are three primary ways the term church is used in the New Testament: 1) the totality of God’s people under the new covenant; 2) a congregation in a geographical area; 3) the local congregation gathered for worship. In the gospel accounts, Jesus often speaks of the kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven. Jesus often used parables to teach about such. The concept of the kingdom of God is also found in the Old Testament referring to the anticipation of another kingdom to come.

In Matthew 16:13-18, Jesus asked, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” Peter boldly declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Upon this rock I will build My church.” Peter’s great confession was made in Caesarea Philippi. Several Old Testament references indicate that the worship of Baal once took place in that area. The original name was Panias. Herod the Great built a temple there and dedicated it to the godhead of Caesar. While temples and palaces have deteriorated over time, the church that Christ built still exists.

The Church God Wants Us to Be
We are called out individually. But God has put us together. He has a plan for us collectively. Ezekiel 3:18 If you don’t warn one who is wicked to turn from his evil ways so that he might live, his blood will be upon you.

OUR PURPOSE: …to REFLECT God's love to our Lord in worship …to SHARE God's love with our church family …to TAKE God's love to the world around us

The Church God Wants Us to Be
Churches are losing members and seeing decreased attendance and contribution numbers. There are members who pretty much stop coming, while others stop coming as frequently. Every church is going to ebb and flow, and Rose Hill is no different in that. 20 people moved away and 2 passed away. But we have also had 17 new people place membership. Our total membership right now is 239. We have members who should want to gather with the church more often.

The Church God Wants Us to Be
This church is getting ready for some major long-term flowing! Over the next months/years we will see genuine God-given growth. One of the best ways to grow is to take care of families with children.

The Church God Wants Us to Be
There are so many things God is doing through this church, and He needs more of us to work. Eph 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” God has already prepared a plan for the work He wants to do here at RH. And part of His plan includes you.

What if everyone in this church was just like you? What if everyone attended / invited / worked like you? Would this church bring more or less people to Christ? If your signing up to help teach a class or serve in some other way, would ultimately influence someone to become a Christian, would that inspire you to do more in the work of the Lord? If your being here on a Sunday/Wednesday night helped to encourage a visitor to come back, and ultimately choose to make Rose Hill their church home, would that inspire you to be here more?
