OJJDP has sponsored the development, testing, and implementation of the Comprehensive Gang Model since the earlier 1980s. The model is based on implementing a combination of 5 strategies:

9. Factors Common to Successful Programs
Based upon a comprehensive needs assessment
Address multiple areas of risk
Consistently implemented and provide youth with sufficient dosage
Give opportunities to develop positive, long-term relationships with prosocial adults
Serve mainly high-risk youth

10. Community-Based Violence Prevention Demonstration Program
Provides funding ($250K to $1.5 million for a three year project period) for localities to support federal, state, and local partnerships to replicate proven multi-disciplinary, community-based strategies to reduce violence.
Program’s goal is to replicate programs, such as the Boston Gun Project, the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model, and the Chicago CeaseFire model, to reduce violence in targeted communities.
These approaches must also involve law enforcement in their youth violence prevention efforts.

11. Community-Based Violence Prevention Demonstration Program
Active sites: Baltimore, Baton Rouge, Boston, Brooklyn, Denver, Los Angeles, Newark, Oakland, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
OJJDP anticipates making six (6) new awards in FY2013.

12. Gang Resistance Education And Training (G. R. E. A. T
Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) is a gang and violence prevention program built around school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curricula.
Crime data is available at the county level only; but, that’s when the user can upload and add their own data to the system.
Census data is 2000, there will always be a time lag with data.
