The Spiritual Master The Real SAT GURU
BAP Vrinda-Vedic Light Presentation IMLITALA
2
When we realize that we are in need for help…
We learn how to pray and cry out for help We start looking for a master of the situation We look for the answer to find the root of our problem We are ready to accept some discipline to prepare ourselves to understand the solution We accept to become students Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
3
Countless evidence in life gives us proof that…
In all material fields of knowledge, masters appear who know the intrinsic nature of their subjects Practically everything in life we learn from some kind of master Even those who try to rely on their own capacity cannot avoid to use the instruments they received from previous masters in language, home, school and life etc Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
4
What happened before we were born or will happen after we die?
Why are we here and what shall we do? What is real freedom and happiness? What gives life to this body made of chemicals? What is the true relationship between our creator and us? What are our duties here? What is good and bad? How to control our mundane mind? How to get out of the world of sufferings? How to choose the right way in all circumstances Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
5
Countless questions of this nature approach us daily
But where is the answer? Schools and universities, even science, simply deny talking about it or they give some wild speculation as an answer Military and other powers consider those questions subversive and dangerous Being insecure, those without any answer create thousands of pretexts to justify their ignorance towards this inquiry Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
6
It is Your own duty to find the answers!
Athato Brahma Jijnasa- the human form of life is meant for inquiring into and realizing the truth You cannot do that duty for others nor can they do it for you Self-realization is an absolutely personal issue Ignorance does not protect us from the reactions of our mistaken behavior Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
7
That is the reason why we need a spiritual master
Someone who knows the truth Someone who is firm in the truth and compassionate to all Someone who will never let you down, nor cheat you in any way Someone who is self-realized Someone who known and loves God Someone who himself has accepted a spiritual master and who is his bonafide representative Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
8
It is a fashion today to accept experts as “gurus”
Marketing guru, fashion guru, health guru, exercise guru- Guru means heavy—heavy in transcendental knowledge and realization Another meaning is gu- darkness and ru- to pull you out While fabricated “gurus” only increase your illusion, a real guru will save you from illusion (maya=that which is not real) Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
9
There is one truth but many gurus!
One creator; one current but many outlets The form is always depending on the substance. Any “guru” who deviates from that truth is exposed as a fake Follow the guru who resides in your heart Consult with the holy scriptures Counsel with real sadhus and yogis, whose life is exemplary Consult the teachings of the masters in the initiation school (parampara) Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof

So called Gurus only serve the lower goals of conditioned souls.
To go to heavenly planets To get mystic powers. To improve your health To have the prestige of having a guru How to enjoy the senses in the name of yoga To make money by teaching others yoga Even if a student has all these desires still it is recommended that he should practice bhakti yoga and thus all desires which obstruct his path will be removed Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
16
The Guru teaches the final conclusion of Vedic knowledge
There are many branches of Yoga and Vedic knowledge. All of them point to the final goal, but the chanting of the holy names of Krishna includes all benefits Hatha Yoga – Exercises and breathing to control the body Karma Yoga – How to direct our activities in the direction of spiritual progress Jnana Yoga – How to control the mind and distinguish between matter and spirit Bhakti Yoga – How to learn to love God and to surrender to his sweet will Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof

Evam parampara- praptam imam rajarsayo viduh Sa kaleneha mahata yogo nastah parantapa “In this way saintly kings learned this path of knowledge through the divine succession. Presently after a long time, this teaching has almost been lost completely. Now I shall deliver that eternal teaching to you.” Bhagavad Gita 4.2 Srila A.C. B. Prabhupada Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
20
Our Guru is our father, mother, friend and wellwisher.
A disciple should see his Guru as Gods representative We can reveal our mind to him We are accountable to him. He will give us our service to God Through him we belong to a spiritual family Through the mantra we become his child and are considered twice born Accepting a Guru is a personal choice of our heart and should not be done as a social function or influenced by eclesiastic tradition. Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
21
A real disciple is blessed by causeless knowledge and detachment
He strictly follows the vows of initiation He is vegetarian, celibate or chaste in his marriage, free of intoxication and free of gambling He does not collect money for egotistic sake and counsels with his guardian regarding any important decision Krishna will make him an instrument of his love Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof

Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
Krishna himself confirms the importance of a spiritual master. Bhagavad Gita 4-34 Tat vidhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya upadeksyanti te jnanam jnaninas tattva darsinah “If you want to know the truth you have to search for a spiritual master. Offer obeisances unto him, make relevant inquiries and offer him your sincere service. The self-realized soul can teach you because he has seen the truth.” Imlitala Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
23
Impersonalist Gurus and others who teach partial or distorted truth
There are three levels of spiritual achievement Brahman- Then impersonal effulgence of the spiritual world and the Supreme Lord Paramatma- the Aspect of God residing in every heart also known as the universal Supersoul Bhagavan- The highest realm of Krishna where he lives eternally with his pure devotees Whoever does not teach these three aspects of vedic knowledge teaches only partial truth Whoever denies any of these three aspects distorts the truth Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof

You have to know and practice the science of Krishna Kiba vipra kibe nyasi sudra kena naya sei krishna tattva veta sei guru haya Even if you are born in a family of outcasts, if you know the science of Krishna you can become a spiritual master, whereas an erudite Brahmana who is not a surrendered soul to Krishna cannot become a spiritual master Life without a Guru is like a house without a roof
