Forensic Validation 1. Marker Validation 2. Sequence Validation
The application of bar-coding to conservation enforcement will require two forms of forensic validation: 1. Marker Validation All loci used in forensic analysis must be validated. A validation study for COI is underway that includes different forms of fish. 2. Sequence Validation Individual bar-coded sequences will require extra validation for forensic application. Validation studies include examining variation in PCR conditions and source DNA. Forensic validation could be included in the bar-coding protocol as an optional extra.
