2. Course Outline Assessment
This course encourages students to develop their skills and knowledge through a variety of practical and theoretical tasks. Students learn technical drawing, application of materials, media and methods and the purpose of design elements and design principles. They also learn how to present visual communications in a range of formats. This course prepares students for VCE Visual Communication Design.
Assessment
The course is divided into 3 assessment tasks:
1. House and Garden Design where students study conventions involved in creating and drawing a floor plan. Review Orthogonal drawing methods.
2. An advertising task where students construct an advertisement to solve a defined need.
3. An analysis task which involves research and writing about visual communication designs.

3. Topics Covered Floor Plans
Explore, develop and present a house and garden design using appropriate conventions.
Orthogonal
Consider the Front, Top and Side views of products using specific conventions.

4. Topics Covered Advertising
Create a digital design for an existing product using programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator.
VCD Analysis
Writing about visual communication design and considering a designers target audience, purpose, use of materials, media and methods, design elements and design principles.
