1 “Obama, Boehner meet about fiscal cliff”

2 Washington D.C. -- Twenty-three days since they last met face-to-face and 23 days before the fiscal cliff becomes a harsh reality, the two men sat down Sunday. There was no evidence of a breakthrough, though President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner at least did agree on something: what, and what not, to say. After the talks ended, White House spokesman said "This afternoon, the president and Speaker Boehner met at the White House to discuss efforts to resolve the fiscal cliff (referring to the tax hikes and spending cuts that will take effect in January without a deal). We're not reading out details of the conversation, but the lines of communication remain open."

3 In Other News On Sunday, as he has for more than 20 years, Rabbi Levi Shemtov presided over the annual lighting of the National Menorah. The event dates back to 1979, but it was President Ronald Reagan who officially designated the candelabrum, placed in the Ellipse just south of the White House, the National Menorah. Just adjacent to the White House Christmas tree, the 30-foot menorah stands high enough to be seen from afar, and its height is regulated under Jewish law. The second Powerball ticket holder in last month's record jackpot has come forward to claim winnings worth nearly $200 million before taxes, the Arizona Lottery said Friday. "It is difficult to express just how thankful we are for this wonderful gift," said the winner. The Arizona winner is married, in his 30s and plans to keep his job, lottery official says.
