-Vaudeville first appearance was in the 1860´s but it was not very popular in the beginning.It was at first attractive only to drunks and prostitutes. -It really sparked right after the civil war because of the growing of white collar jobs and the middle class. -It was an American made art that allowed people to view a funny way of Shakespeare and other comical arts. -Vaudeville was made by the combinations of other American delights like medicine and the circus. Characteristics of Performance
-Vaudeville acts consisted of plate-spinners,singers, acrobats, comedians, dancers, animal trainers, ventriloquists (basically any acts that could entertain an audience). -Usually a dozen or more acts in 1 show. -Vaudeville crossed racial and class boundaries. -It’s often described as a farce with music. -More or less Vaudeville is a family affair. Physical Theatre Space
-The theater was built by Martin Beck in 1913 but the place was taken over by B.F. Keith -Vaudeville theatres adapted the style of Southern European palace. -Vaudeville shows were held in large, opulent, palace like theaters which draw a lot of people's attention through the Physical Theatre Space Taylor Ward

Important People Tony Pastor
In 1881 Tony created a variety show for families. Other managers recognized that a wider audience meant more money and followed his lead. Later on Vaudeville soon became a central point for American cultural life Important People Taylor Ward

Important People B.F. Keith
He began his career as a traveling circus barker in the 1870’s and later owned a dime museum in boston that featured “Baby Alice the Midget Wonder” and other curious acts. Keith opened a string of theaters in Boston area and soon spread them across America and Canada. His great success allowed him to built the Bijou theatre, a lavish,fireproof theater. Later Keith was know as the “father of American Vaudeville.” Taylor Ward

Jack Benny -started in Vaudeville as a well accomplished violinist, when he was very young -almost went on tour with The Marx Brothers but his parents didn’t want his 17-year-old go on the road -after a very successful career in Vaudeville, he moved over the radio -his radio show was called “The Jack Benny Show” Talia Crumrine
