4 Routines/Procedures…
Birthdays –rather than celebrating birthdays with treats, we will acknowledge birthdays by singing “Happy Birthday” during our morning calendar routine. Students will also be presented with a birthday crown. Birthday Book Club-media center Absences – send in a note or with the reason for absence Empty Red Folder every night

5 More Routines/Procedures…
PLEASE LABEL EVERTHING– coats, sweaters, jackets, hats, backpacks, lunch boxes, water thermos, etc… Air-conditioning – if your child gets cold easily – you can send in a light sweater or sweatshirt to keep in their book bag!

6 Language Arts We use the Common Core State Standards
Our goal is to have all students writing and reading independently on or above grade level through the use of a variety of research based strategies such as: Small group instruction Interactive Read Aloud Accountable Independent Reading Letters, sounds, words

7 Paideia At least once a month, our students will practice higher-level thinking and conversational skills. We will use a variety of topics related to our Kindergarten standards.

11 Testing in Kindergarten
K-3 Dibels/TRC – State testing that is administered to individual students 3 times per year. Results will be sent home as they are completed. Our End of Year Benchmark for kindergarten students is reading independently at level D. Map Testing- CMS test that is administered to individual students on the computer 3 times per year. Results will be sent home. This test is used as an indicator of your child’s current math skills.

13 Homework Procedures and Policies
K-3 total of 30 minutes with reading log included Read poem of the week and sign the log

14 Volunteer Opportunities
Please check the front table for volunteer sign-ups. Don’t forget to sign-up to be an approved volunteer – lunch, in class, parties, field trips.

15 Volunteer and Visitor Policy
You must register as a CMS volunteer at: You will receive an that confirms you as a volunteer. If you are from out of state it will take longer to run a background check. Go ahead and register any family member that may come to the school. Even lunch visitors must be approved. This is for the safety of your children. We appreciate your support!
