TIGER SAFETY Please remember to respect each other's personal space, and responsibly keep hands, feet, and other to yourselves. This means games such as necking and 5 star are prohibited. We understand friends play these games with one another, but also know these playful actions can escalate and lead to unwanted outcomes, not only for the participants, but for others in the vicinity. Did you know? More children die of childhood cancer than any other disease in the U.S., and every year 300,000 kids worldwide are diagnosed. And cancer doesn’t care about borders, race, nationality, age, socioeconomic status or religion—it can strike any child at any time.

Ike is a childhood cancer fighter who just finished treatment for
acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a cancer of the white blood cells that normally fight infection. The cells do not grow and develop properly, filling up the bone marrow inside bones, where blood is normally made ALL is the most common type of childhood cancer, accounting for 35% of all cancers in children. Each year, there are about 2,900 new cases of children and adolescents diagnosed with ALL in the United States alone. Ike’s strength and attitude has inspired friends and family to adopt the motto “Tough Like Ike!” After all, being a normal kid is what Ike’s always wanted. And now that he’s only going in to the hospital for check-ups every two months, he’s able to get back to doing just that.

Character Counts- Fairness
During the month of January, we celebrate the pillar of Fairness. Fairness means treating ALL others with honesty and respect, cooperating with others, celebrating the uniqueness and value of EVERY person and making sure others are not treated badly. Talk about why fairness is important. Who are some people that fought for fairness for others? Talk about ways we can show “fairness” at school.
