How much do we really get back from recycling?
Each month residents are charged a monthly solid waste fee The fee is currently $23.20 per month. This fee is used to pay for all solid waste services. By recycling on can, we usually get about 3-5 cents back.
6
Is recycling really worth it?
It really costs more to recycle, than to dispose of it. The market place is telling us that we are wasting our resources, and time by recycling. By recycling, we are sending our money down a rat hole. It will cost most cities $18.00 to dispose one ton of waste, and $50.00 to recycle it.
7
Effect on culture Some people have made recycling a culture.
Recycling is looked as a god, to some people. Recycling is seen as bringing new life to the world.
9
Where do materials go after they are recycled?
Materials are sent to recyclers throughout the United States and the world, once the materials are sorted. This depends on the availability of markets and value of the materials. An example of this is a newsprint and cardboard are sometimes sent to the Abitibi paper mill in Snowflake, Arizona in northeast part of the state. Sometimes, some paper goes to exporters in California and then to other parts of the world.
11
The benefits of recycling
By recycling, we create more space in our environment, because materials like bottles are being cleaned up and reused. Also by recycling, we get a cleaner environment, because the waste won’t be on the streets. The pollution will also go down, due to the decrease of waste. If we didn’t have recycling, our environment would probably look like a mess.
12
Downsides of recycling
One downside of recycling is that we lose money, since it is more expensive to recycle things than to just throw them away. There aren’t really any downsides of recycling, besides the price.
13
Our opinion on recycling
We think that we should continue to recycle. We think this, because it has good benefits like more space, cleaner environment, and new materials to use. Even though their our some down sides, they benefits are sill better.
14
How many tons are recycled each day?
We believe that there is 37.8 tons that are recycled each day by our citizens that care about recycling to help our planet.
15
Interesting Facts 1 Our Society is called a disposable society.
By recycling cans, we save energy. 3,000 gallons of gas could be saved by recycling. We also save energy by recycling. If we recycle things like newspaper, we could save many things like trees.
17
Interesting Facts 2 If we recycle, we can reduce pollution by 95%.
By dripping car oil on the floor, it can go in to the ground and pollute our whole water system. When we go shopping, it is better to use plastic bags than paper bags, since the paper bags release chemicals. When we cut the grass, it is actually better to leave the grass clippings on the ground, since it releases nutrients in to the air.
19
Some Questions We Still Have
What will happen in the future when we run out of space for our recycled waste? Do you think that scientists will ever find more clean way to recycle that doesn’t take up as much space? If we think about these things, will it really effect the future?
20
Summary Recycling is actually better to do, since it has more benefits than downsides. We think that everyone should recycling, and that will make our environment a better one.
