The system of Social Welfare in Russia means a system of caring for the citizens of Russia through a range of services.

The welfare system operates in 5 major Spheres:
education; social security; community care; health care; housing.

What categories of citizens are entitled to various benefits in Russia?

In Russia social benefits are paid to:
elderly people; people who are sick; people who are not able to work (the disabled); people who do not work (unemployed); the widowed; the poor; the retired; young people up to 18 or longer if they continue their education.

What benefits are the citizens of Russia entitled to?

Women have a right to pension at the age of 55 and men at the age of 65 (This pension is called an old-age pension). Retired people can get a salary or a wage and still receive their pension in full.

Maternity pay is available to women who leave work to have a baby.

Widows can get payments for their husbands who died.

Each child is provided with a child allowance which is usually paid to their mothers.

The disabled can receive invalidity pensions.
