2 FAWCO & the UN Since 1997, FAWCO is a UN-accredited NGO with consultative status to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). We have UN NGO Representatives in New York, Geneva, Vienna and Athens. WHY? To inform our members and give them a voice in global concerns in particular on women’s issues in the areas of education, environment, health and human rights. To establish credibility in times of NGO proliferation – only a few thousand have ECOSOC consultative status.

3 How does FAWCO support the UN? FAWCO’s UN Reps attend meetings in New York, Geneva, Vienna and Athens and report back to the membership at large – raising awareness. FAWCO UN Reps are active on the boards of the NGO Committees on the Status of Women in Geneva and Vienna. FAWCO organizes events to include the voice of civil society at the UN (Panel on Women & Water at the UNHRC 2009, Geneva NGO Forum for Beijing +20 UNECE Regional Review 2014) FAWCO advocates for the USA’s ratification of CEDAW and CRC and urges the US to support the UN and pay membership dues. In support of the UN Goals, FAWCO’s Target Program and Global Issues Task Forces raise awareness.
