KISTI 국가슈퍼컴퓨팅연구소 콜로키움(2) A Global Analysis of Whole Genome Sequence
▣ 일 시 : 2013년 6월 7일(금) 14:00∼16:00 ▣ 장 소 : KISTI 국제회의실 A Global Analysis of Whole Genome Sequence Dr. Sung-Hou Kim (미국 학술원 회원, UC-Berkeley 화학과 교수) ▣발표요약: Whole genome (WG) sequence information of various organisms, including humans, is revolutionizing our understanding of the content and organizational characteristics of various genomic regions. However, no analysis method exists to compare whole genome sequences among different species of organisms. We have developed a method of comparing whole genome sequences without sequence alignment, which is impossible at whole genome level. The method is inspired by an algorism for comparing two texts of words of natural language in, for example, plagiarism detection. The method has been successfully applied to classify living organisms into groups of similar organizational and semantic features of genomes , and to suggest possible evolutionary relationship among the groups of the organisms. The basic concept behind the method and the some results of application of the method will be presented. Finally, potential applications of the method to human genome sequences and other fields will be proposed. ▣ 연사소개:-Seoul National U.(1960/62), Physical Chemistry, U. of Pittsburgh(1966) - Professor, Department of Chemistry, U. of California, Berkeley(2010-present) - Distinguished Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences, WCU Program, Yonsei University Graduate School(2010-present) - Center Director, Berkeley Structural genomics Center, LBNL, Berkeley( ) - Head, Structural Biology Department, Physical Biosciences Division of LBNL, UC Berkeley( ) - Director, Lab.
