Networking Activity Shining Moments
Look back over the past 8 or 240 years and write down 2-3 shining moments or movements. Political Achievements Laws Supreme Court Rulings Etc. look back over their work careers and find three events, activities, accomplishments, collaborations, or moments of recognition by others that were shining or important to them. I think of these as career highlights. Provide ten or so minutes for the participants to think about and jot down ideas before you ask them to share their shining moments with their small group. Share with goup

Collective Impact Vision
Strive realized, “Fixing one point on the educational continuum—such as better after-school programs—wouldn’t make much difference unless all parts of the continuum improved at the same time. Instead, their ambitious mission became to make improvements at every stage of a young person’s life, from “cradle to career.” Partnership between Ed Fund & RCF Birth through College
25
Literacy Coalition Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. Yet every year, more than 80 percent of low-income children miss this crucial milestone. Campaign focus areas: Early Learning/School Readiness Chronic Absence Out of School Time (summer and after-school programs)
26
Progress Richmond A critical mass of Richmond and North Richmond adults who currently live below the self-sufficiency threshold and face systemic barriers to economic mobility to be employed and advancing in career-track jobs in the ICT or other high growth sectors. 1000 low income residents within 3 years 2000 within 5 years.

Team’s Identity & Purpose
Identity and Purpose “The role of the policy team is to address barriers that inhibit the work of the collaborative in fulfilling the common agenda goal” Common Agenda Goal By 2025, we will double the number of West County children and youth who earn a post-secondary degree or certificate What have the CBO’s, District, etc. identified as the barriers that impact success toward fulfilling the goal? What is the data that the policy team needs that will help it identify what needs to be done to overcome the barriers
30
Benchmarks & Barriers What are key benchmarks students must meet to achieve success in college, career, and life? 2. What are the barriers that prevent students from achieving success in college, career, and life? 3. Who is working on the benchmarks/barriers?
31
Identify Key Data Points Relevant to Policy Team Role
The Following might be data points relevant to the Policy Team’s work in addressing barriers that the Collaborative member’s face in moving forward the common agenda goal and indicators How many students by the end of the ninth grade are on track to complete the A-G requirements How many students actually complete the A-G by the end of high school How many students are reading at grade level by 3rd grade How many students are taking Algebra I by 8th grade What are the baseline indicators for proficiency in math and English by 8th grade Thus, for example, if x% were identified as being on track by the end of 9th grade, but only y% actually completed the A-G by the end of high school, what accounts for the disparity? What are the gateway markers that every student needs in order to succeed at every key milestone in their educational development (e.g. Pre-K, 3rd Grade, 6th Grade, 8th Grade, etc.)? What are the barriers to success? What are the key benchmarks that identify what a college-going student looks like at 3rd grade, 6th grade, 8th grade, and 10th grade? E.g. standardized tests, other tests or indicators?
