1 Dementia Services Where You Are Strengths and Challenges
An Invitation to think and create!!!

2 We don’t like this word!!!! The World is Changing Increasing “need” Challenging economic situation Changing demographic So we need to do things differently We need to work in new ways We need to work with new partners within a new (shared) paradigm

3 Strategy and Policy invite us into this new world
Christie Report 2011: A programme of reform “public services are built around people and communities, their needs, aspirations, capacities and skills and work to build up their autonomy and resilience” HSCPs - Shared responsibilities for health and wellbeing in health and social care partnerships Scotland’s National Dementia Strategies – emphasis on working together….no one can do it all

4 and then make the changes necessary to turn that vision into reality.”
The 20 / 20 Vision “We must be bold enough to visualise the NHS that will best meet the needs of the future in a way that is sustainable, and then make the changes necessary to turn that vision into reality.”

5 Invite to Coproduce New Responses From the Christie Report
An approach to public services where solutions are designed and delivered with people rather than ‘to’ and ‘for’ them. Changes the starting question from “what services do you need?” to “how do you want to live your life? A powerful question! Sets out an alternative to the dominant model of public services in which professionals design and deliver services for “needy” users Services acknowledge and reward local ‘lay’ experience while continuing to value professional expertise. Service users and carers work alongside professionals as partners in the delivery of services.

6 Co Production is about new partnerships and new ways of working

7 “Reform like this cannot succeed unless….”
Individuals, communities and organisations work together Co-produce the services they use Public services and communities find a new balance in their relationship Focus on improving health and wellbeing Develop resilience, self management approaches, responsibility, mastery and control The Commission on the Future Delivery of Public Services Report - Christie 2011 Creativity needed!!

8 So what will it take? New culture New language New approach to work
New approach to measurement New ethics New ways of sharing information New conversations and new responses

9 So now we want to invite you
To think with us about…….. What connects us What’s possible in this new world And what could be………..for SLT and Dementia We will do this by thinking and talking together ...through conversation ….. and inquiring with appreciation

10 What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. Ralph Waldo Emerson
