1
Scenarios framework – exploring ‘practice’
2 March 2017 workshop
2
Aim of today Recap on last meeting
Brief look at revised scenario matrix Explore what is ‘improved’ and ‘water sensitive’ practice Looking ahead
3
Recap on last meeting Need to see how working group material fits in
Fix up language bias Scenarios need to be able to be picked apart Make sure PT is transparent Provisional ‘proceed’ given
4
Revised scenario matrix
Note handout Change in language Feedback is really welcome, but do so by coming to a PT member, or ing us Now we’re going to look at some of the key questions in completing the scenarios
5
Handout you received last week shows this diagram
These are the 3 key questions to answer so that we have completed scenario packages ready for the modellers by the end of March GO THROUGH THE QUESTIONS SLOWLY We’re looking for scenarios that are narrative but also specific and really reflect what you guys are interested in exploring Plenty of tasks within!
6
Three questions In order to complete scenarios: Today March 23rd
For new urban, where is it? What kind of density? 2 For all land use change and practice, when does it occur? 3 For all areas, what is improved or water sensitive practice? 1 Today March 23rd Today we’re focusing on the first question – all about practice and how the material you guys developed in the working groups last year. Practice means the way we undertake or manage activities that impact water – whether these be in the urban areas, rurally, about asset management or land use – in other words, across all the activities you guys covered in the three working groups. Improved means better than today; water sensitive means really having water quality outcomes to the heart of decision making about management approaches and is a step up in effort from improved We’ve gots lots of material from the RI, SWWW and UD working groups to translate into this practice concept – the next bit of the presentation takes you through our proposal for how to do this. This will then be followed by a big workshop activity where you can really come to grips with how this might work.

Method behind today Modellers/PT/WWL meeting January
For all areas, what improved or water sensitive practice? 1 Method behind today Modellers/PT/WWL meeting January Advice on suitability of options for modelling Work by PT since 9 February Sorting options into ‘improved’ and ‘water sensitive’ The recommendations for how your material maps onto the proposed framework came from two steps: Meeting with the modellers in January (as mentioned last meeting) where they identified that both all options made sense, but that some might need to be analysed outside of the scenario matrix framework Since the last meeting with the Committee, taking this material and sorting them against the Improved and Water Sensitive options to create the groupings that we’re presenting today
8
Sorting the Rural Issues WG material
For all areas, what improved or water sensitive practice? 1 Sorting the Rural Issues WG material At this point, grab the handouts on the desk. These show… Explain each category Talk through hand out Note forestry to be confirmed still
9
Sorting the Stormwater and Wastewater WG material
For all areas, what improved or water sensitive practice? 1 Sorting the Stormwater and Wastewater WG material Talk through each grouping I and W categories are effectively the same as for the Rural Issues work New “I + W” category means could use this option in both (or either) depending on the level at which its undertaken. An example of this is for the management options around wastewater overflows. For these, the Project Team would like to come back to you with options for how to put this together. Two other categories too: WWTP – recommend we analyse this outside the big framework because – very important (particularly re cultural and social values) but don’t think the information we have is useful for modelling the impacts of the discharge, how it mixes etc ‘Other’ – these management options are probably too hard to put into integrated scenario packages (lack of knowledge, novel approaches etc), but it would still be really useful to have information around what they might be able to achieve and cost
10
Sorting the Urban Development WG material
For all areas, what improved or water sensitive practice? 1 Sorting the Urban Development WG material Use narratives relating to practice: Improved = Best practice Water sensitive = ‘Better than best practice’ Technical input to further tease out practices
11
A Integrated scenarios B Separate analyses
Analysis of stormwater management options: First flush diversion Brake pads Improving compliance on industrial/trade sites Wastewater network overflow reduction options Wastewater treatment plant impact analysis Water take and use analysis Integrated scenarios A Separate analyses B

From here: Workshop practice material today
PT revise, based on today’s discussion Request advice from technical experts on finer detail, including getting Committee/ modellers together PT recommendations for how these could come together Bear with us, there’s a lot of tasks within!
