2. To calculate the percent composition of a compound:
The percent composition of a compound is the measure of the percent by mass of each element present in a compound.
To calculate the percent composition of a compound:
1. Calculate the total mass of each element present in the formula of the compound by completing an atom inventory
2. Calculate the molar mass of the compound.
3. Calculate the percent composition of each element
% by mass = (total mass of element present ÷ molar mass of compound) x 100
Each elements % should add up to 100%.
