1 Psychology- Unit 1 Mrs. Kelly
The Seven Contemporary Perspectives of Psychology within the Biopsychosocial Model Psychology- Unit 1 Mrs. Kelly

2 Nature/Nurture spectrum Biopsychosocial Model
Is to visualize 7 major perspectives in modern psychology, all of which, in turn, go into the Biopsychosocial model. They are: psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, behavioral/learning, evolutionary, sociocultural, Neuroscientific/biological, humanistic, and cognitive. The visuals you will create, I want all in a similar format, a box with a profile of a head. This will display the seven psychological perspectives that go into the Biopsychosocial model on the nature vs. nurture spectrum. Nature Nurture

3 EXAMPLE

4 Perspective Project Explanation
Psychology uses eight contemporary perspectives to explain human behavior. During this activity, you will explore and attempt to explain these eight contemporary perspectives. For each component, your group will review information about the perspectives of psychology by reading about the information through a Google search or powerpoint. Then, consult the text for further information about this perspective If you haven’t yet read the textbook, do so now. This will summarize the present-day theories of psychology.

5 All Seven Perspectives
Biological Perspective Behavioral (learning) Perspective Psychoanalytic (psychodynamic) Perspective Humanistic Perspective Cognitive Perspective Socio-cultural (social)Perspective Evolutionary Perspective

6 Explanation con’t Create a box with a profile head.
Insert an original image or visual that represents that perspective. You should create a slogan that captures the essence of the perspective. For example, “Think before you leap.” could represent cognitive perspective. (CANNOT USE THIS SLOGAN!) The slogans can be completely original, parodies of famous sayings, or even takeoffs from commercials. On the back of each perspective you are to explain the perspective based on your visual representation. 1- describe the perspective, and 2- explain why your visual helps with the explanation. Then, you are to put the perspective in a spectrum order starting from Nature to Nurture. Lastly, you are to create a cover, same box with profile head that incorporates the Biopsychosocial model along with the Biopsychosocial Model title, your names and period number.

7 The Product Your group’s final project should answer the question “How does the ___________ perspective explain behavior?” for each one. An outside observer should be able to look at the elements of your presentation and be able to answer this essential question.

8 Mental image visual example
Here I tried to incorporate classical images of thinking, like Rodin’s The Thinker, and gears, without going straight to the thought bubble. A thought bubble suggested this person had their head in the clouds, which is not a representation of the Cognitive Perspective. I also tried to make it like a blue print, and added the graph imagery to make it look more like “I think therefore I am.” The cognitive perspective is concerned with understanding mental processes such as memory, perception, thinking, and problem solving, and how they may be related to behavior.  The cognitive perspective may explain individual differences in behavior with respect to differences in the way people think and process information. “Think Before you Leap”

9 Biopsychosocial Model
Cover example The interaction of biological, psychological, and social aspects of developmental psychology form the  biopsychosocial perspective. The biopsychosocial perspective attributes complex phenomena or events to multiple causes.  The biological component of the biopsychosocial model seeks to understand how the cause of the illness stems from the functioning of the individual's body. The psychological component of the biopsychosocial model looks for potential psychological causes for a health problem such as lack of self-control, emotional turmoil, and negative thinking. The social part of the biopsychosocial model investigates how different social factors such as socioeconomic status, culture, poverty, technology, and religion can influence health.
