4 Thoughts on Disqualification
“I’m glad it happened, [the disqualification] was a really good wake up call.  You need that in life sometimes” – Angelina. “I guess it wasn’t the greatest day of my life.  But, I can’t say I was surprised by it” – Max “When I got [here] I was just going through the motions and not really putting my effort into it.  I had a job; I always had a full time job.  Now, I’m only working one to two days a week.  I didn’t want work to come first anymore.  I worked too much and I was too tired to do my homework or to read – Sara.

16 Group 1: Only attended CI, or overall cumulative GPA is deficient
Attempted units are located under CUM TOTALS (ex. 68 attempted units) If you have taken a CR/NC class (excluding Math 94, Math 95), deduct from attempted units total Your CI/CUM GPA will be noted next to CUM GPA (ex. 1.58)

17 Group 2: Attended another school, and your CI GPA is deficient
Add attempted units located under TERM TOTALS for every semester you’ve attended CI [ex (CR class) = 16 attempted units With CR/NC class (excluding Math 94, Math 95), deduct unit from attempted units total Find CI GPA in My Academics “Current Academic Summary”

18 How many classes do I need to take to reach a 2.0 GPA?
Go to the CI website Under Search CI (top right corner) Enter GPA Calculator Enter “Desired GPA”: 2.0 Enter your “Current GPA” Enter your “Attempted Units (To Date)”: Enter your “Total Units (This Semester”) {what you’ll take this excluding CR/NC classes}

19 To figure out what is needed to reach a 2.0 GPA . . .
Enter Desired GPA, Current GPA, Attempted Units & Total Units to get Average GPA needed to attain a 2.0. Enter this GPA (ex. 2.47) on the Disqualification Action Plan under Average GPA needed to reach 2.0 At the bottom, it will show the average grade you need to receive (ex. B- average)

20 To figure out what is needed to get a 2.0 GPA . . .
If you will be repeating a class . . . Choose the “Units” the class is worth Choose the “Grade” of the class you are repeating Then press calculate. *Repeating classes improves GPA faster

21 What If It’s Not Possible to Attain a Semester GPA to reach a 2.0?
Change Total Units (This Semester) Increase to 18, 21, 24 This will help you figure out how many classes to take to reach a 2.0. Make note of classes you’ll need to take on your Disqualification Action Plan. Depending on finances, it can take you a few semesters to reach a 2.0.

22 Calculating Semester GPA

23 Grade Forgiveness Policy
May repeat up to12 units total at CI for grade forgiveness. 2nd attempt (grade) will replace 1st attempt. Beyond 12 units, 12 additional units will be grade averaged into GPA for a total of 24 repeated units. May only be used on grades of “IC”, “C-” or less. May not be used on grades of “C” or higher, “I” or failing grade as a result of academic dishonesty. Individual classes can only be repeated once Classes have to be repeated at CI for grade forgiveness Quickest way to raise GPA (especially for F, IC or WU grades).

24 When Not to Repeat a Class
You have changed your major will spend 50% of your time on class – just to get a “C,” and would only have 50% of time left between other classes positive you cannot pass said class even with extra tutoring have already repeated the class once

25 Conditions for Repeating Classes
Required class in your major, and major requires “C” or better You know you could be successful in the class, with ample studying and tutoring do not have to repeat the class with the same professor, (unless he/she is the only one who teaches the class)

26 Former Student Dismissed
My story of being academically dismissed

28 More thoughts . . . “I think at first I was excited as a freshman [like] hey this is so cool, meeting new people, but then as it started to sink in, you feel overwhelmed, because you don’t have that support, and you’re on your own, which is good, because you get to be independent, but at the same time, you have to be the one to [take] initiative and say, I am going to schedule an appointment with the counselor, go to the [writing tutor]. I think I definitely learned to be more organized with my school work, because as opposed to someone telling you, okay your assignment is due Friday, or you have to see your counselor in two weeks, it’s more of, here’s your syllabus and the assignments are due on [the dates listed]. So, procrastination happens and all these other factors…it was overwhelming.  But, as time passed, I turned the overwhelming feeling into more of a proactive [feeling] and learned to push forward and you have to do this on your own.  Of course, there is help, you just need to go find it”  – Angelina.
