On the next page you will be given information about SALT, a membership program to help students become more financially savvy and manage their money and student loans. We encourage you to register for free with this organization and make use of all the help it can give you regarding your college finances.

Budgeting at any time in one’s life is difficult. However, in college it is more difficult for the following reasons:
It may be the first time you have to be completely responsible for your money. Newly found independence mixed with inadequate knowledge of budgeting can lead to debt.
If you go into debt now it will take many years of your youth to repay the loans. If you decide to do this make it a conscious decision.
Credit cards may have high rates of repayment for younger people.
You may have more pressure in your life than you used to have and may end up spending more money than you are used to as a way to deal with the stress.
You have other issues to focus on such as doing well in school. Decisions about creating your future are important factors that rest on your shoulders at this unique time in your life.

3. Dominican University of California has teamed up with SALTSM, a membership program to help students become more financially savvy and manage their money and student loans. SALT  is offered free to Dominican students and includes features including money management tools, a personal dashboard tracking all of your federal student loans from Dominican, as well as workshops focused on budgeting, credit cards and banking! SALT provides access to thousands of jobs and internships and provides exclusive benefits to help students save and spend smart.
