1 Quiz: How Humanist Are You?

2 1. The meaning in my life comes from…
My relationships, discovering new things, and following my goals. Making myself happy. Nowhere. Life has no meaning. A higher power, who has a plan for us.

3 2. When I die… I see no evidence that I will continue to exist, although I may live on in the memories of others. Death is just the end, full stop. I don't know what will happen, so it is impossible to answer. I will go on to exist forever in another place.

4 3. I am most likely to believe something is true if…
I personally see evidence for it. Trustworthy people tell me they've seen evidence. I feel it in my gut. It is written in a sacred text or told to me by a religious authority.

5 4. I think the universe… Is a natural place and can be best understood through science. Is a natural place, but we will never understand everything about it. Is impossible to understand. Is a natural place, but I also believe there is another, supernatural, layer to reality that we need religion to understand.

6 5. On the question of whether there's a god…
I see no evidence for a god or gods, so I don't believe they exist. I can’t definitely say whether there is a god or not. I just don’t care I am certain that a god or gods exist.

7 6. I can tell right from wrong by…
Thinking for myself about the probable consequences of my actions and their effects on others. Listening to what my friends and family tell me about how to behave. Picking whatever will work out best for me - no need to worry about others. Consulting a holy book or listening to a religious authority.

8 7. When it comes to religion, I think governments should…
Be neutral and not favour or discriminate against any person because of religion. Promote atheism - no religions are true and governments should tell people so. Reflect the majority religion in the country - that religion should be favoured. Promote my religion or belief, as it is the one and only true religion or belief.

9 8. When I look at a beautiful natural view I think that…
Understanding science makes the natural world seem even more amazing. This makes me feel good. I feel part of nature. This is really boring. This is the wondrous creation of a god.

10 9. Other people matter and should be treated with respect because…
They are people with feelings like mine. We will all be happier if we treat each other well. They are useful to me. God created us all in his image.

11 10. Other animals should be treated…
With respect because they can suffer too. Exactly the same as human beings. However we see fit. They were created for us to use. With respect because they are part of a god's creation.

12 WHAT DID YOU ANSWER. HOW HUMANIST ARE YOU
WHAT DID YOU ANSWER? HOW HUMANIST ARE YOU? You don’t need to take the results too seriously but it should at least give you some idea about what you do, and do not, share with a humanist approach to life. Many people share many humanist beliefs and values without even knowing it. However, it’s up to you to decide if you adopt the label!

13 Interpreting the answers
All or Mostly ‘A’s You are almost certainly a humanist. Many people are, often without even knowing it. Your answers show you strongly identify with a range of humanist beliefs and values, and that you try to live your life according to humanist principles, even if you never realised it! All or Mostly ‘B’s There’s a good chance you might be a humanist, particularly if you also selected some ‘A’s. Your thinking is very close to humanist thinking. You identify with how some humanists view the world and you probably try to live a life according to many humanist values. All or Mostly ‘C’s You don’t share many humanist beliefs, but if you also picked some ‘A’s and ‘B’s then you may agree with some aspects of humanist thinking. All or Mostly ‘D’s You almost certainly have a religious faith, and are therefore not a humanist. Nevertheless, you may still share some humanist beliefs and values. Humanists often work with religious groups to try to achieve common goals. Values like kindness and compassion are considered important by people all over the world regardless of their religious or non-religious upbringing.
