NATO Stability Policing Centre of Excellence (NATO SP COE) Doctrine & Standardization Branch

The Doctrine and Standardization Branch is responsible for supporting national and multinational effort in developing doctrines, publications, standards, procedures and other documents in the field of Stability Policing (SP). Within the Branch there are two sections: the Doctrine and Concept Development Section and the Standardization and Interoperability Section.

The Doctrine and Concept Development Section is responsible for supporting national and multinational effort in developing doctrines, publications, procedures and other documents in order to facilitate common understanding in fulfilling Stability Policing activities in every operational environment. It also contributes to the development and validation of NATO and national policies, doctrines and concepts which require Stability Policing expertise. The Standardization and Interoperability Section enhances NATO, national and partner nation’s interoperability in the field of SP by supporting standardization of policies, doctrines, publications and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures on SP and by fostering inclusion and harmonization of SP concepts and standards into existing NATO doctrine.

Past and ongoing activities of the Branch:
NATO Doctrine review activity; NATO Building Integrity Programme: the Programme provides practical tools to help participating countries strengthen integrity, transparency and accountability and reduce the risk of corruption in the Defence and Security Sectors; Military Police Terminology Writing Team: the NATO SP COE contributes with one SP Subject Matter Expert (SME); NATO Urbanization Project: the NATO SP COE contributes with one SP SME to this endeavor which sees NATO exploring the implications of the growth of the world’s population, the increasing connectedness, the littoralization and the movement of people into ever-expanding urban areas; CAX Forum 2015: the Forum's primary goal is to promote the exchange of information and "best practices" among the staffs of NATO and national simulation/exercise centres; NATO SP COE provided support to the event, witch occurred in Vicenza.

Additional future activities: - SP writing team (within the MP Panel); - NATO Strategic Foresight Analysis (SFA); - NATO Framework For Future Alliance Operations (FFAO); - NATO Understand to Prevent 2 (U2P2); - NATO Urbanization Project – Phase 2.
