British Skills Landscape
UK skills are fundamentally weak We have 9 million digitally illiterate people in the UK Need to boost skills of the existing workforce 90% of jobs require the use of a computer 61% of people cannot perform basic IT functions The Technology sector is recruiting 110,500 people a year.

Challenges in Education
Skills gaps are affecting 1 in 10 companies with Technology professionals and are holding back business growth. Neither IT-related A-levels or GCSEs are fully respected by employers or Higher Education The ICT GCSE is a big factor in the decline in student interest in IT-related education and careers Students often think that school ICT courses are mundane and boring – they are too Office focussed The current training environment is fragmented, and the qualifications structures are not well aligned to employer needs The education system is not supporting the digital economy in terms of volume or capability of new recruits Careers advice relating to digital economy jobs is far from adequate.
