3 What’s the Problem? The world will be short of 12.9 million health-care workers by 2035; We have to better equip providers with improved training that includes cost effective skills such as ultrasound so they will be confident to go out and help meet these needs and fill the shortage of care at International, rural and remote locations.

4 My Experience…

6 What I Hope to Accomplish
Help others recognize the benefit of using ultrasound to manage patients in remote locations and improve overall care to areas with very limited resources. Identify a process to begin acquiring ultrasound skills which can be applied for provision of rural and remote care. Stimulate interest to develop a recognized certification for Primary Care Physicians who wish to incorporate ultrasound into their practice.

7 Ultrasound Applications that can reduce cost and improve efficiency and quality of care:

18 Acquiring Competency with U/S
3 Year Family Medicine Program with U/S training: Access to and training with U/S routine in daily clinics U/S use in procedure clinics (General, OB/Gyn, MSK) U/S training workshops/didactics What about outside recognition of the skill to perform U/S? -AIUM -ARDMS -others…

19 U/S Accreditation? AIUM- Physicians must have had STRUCTURED training in each of the specialty areas for which they interpret. If training occurred more than 36 months ago they may provide a representative sample of clinical volume experience totaling 500 cases and a representative sample of CME for a total of 30 credits. $1,700 initial fee Gynecologic Obstetric Breast Abdominal/General Urologic Head and Neck Vascular Musculoskeletal (Diagnostic) Musculoskeletal (Ultrasound-Guided Interventional Procedures) Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia ARDMS $600 initial fee per test
