This PowerPoint presentation holds the topics we have addressed in this week’s Faculty/Staff Workshop and information needed by all instructors. Please contact your dean with any questions or needs. Academic Information for Instructors Check Items 2, 3, & 4 on that list and complete the tasks. Print/Sign/Date the page and give it to Terri Butterfield Contact Stan Inman ( ) for computer and Mylink logins or assistance

5 From Dr. Joy Jones, VPAA: Guidelines for instructors: * Do not allow students to use phones as calculators. * Address your courses’ assigned learning outcomes and nothing else. * Check Sakai site-OVU Syllabi for updated templates. * Provide your OVU address to your students. * Send completed syllabus to your dean by for review. Your dean will upload it to the Sakai site. * Change your password for computer & MyLink logins. * Check your OVU .

-Replaces Dead Week. Change entry in each syllabus to the item provided in the message with this PPT. Notify your dean on whether you will have a final exam or capstone project and if you plan to use your time slot in Final Exam Week. Submit final grades in a secure manner - Enter grades in MyLink, if possible - Can use phone but not to submit grades - Submit a class list with final grades and your signature to the registrar’s office.

It is important to stay up-to-date in content and teaching strategies. See your dean for details about free resources. Faculty Meetings, 1st and 3rd Tuesdays each month, 11:30am-1:00pm, Room 104. 8 Classroom Courtesies Please don’t allow anyone to sit on classroom tables. If you use the screen, raise it before leaving. Before leaving: * Arrange the room in the original set-up. * Erase the boards. * Have everyone dispose of trash. * Close the windows, even if another class is coming. Would you adopt your classroom (TLC, report maintenance needed, etc.)? Tell Terri Butterfield. Thank you.

9 Sakai Every OVU course has a shell available automatically. Please consider using your Sakai site for your course(s). Add basics to your course-syllabus, resources. Could use for communication, assignment submission, Lessons tool, calendar/schedule. Important for unavoidable absences and to ensure communication and availability of resources. Tell your students that, in an emergency that requires cancellation of a class (your illness, weather), that you will place an assignment on the course site. Green Tray Lunches in Room 142 on schedule to be determined. Training. Sharing. Reminder s will go out. Sakai 11 installation is complete. Different look. Tools have some new features. Training available & nearly painless. G.K. Pennington, or see your dean.

10 Sakai 11 Update Sakai 11 allows use on variety of devices with icons and/or text. Changes appearance and adds functionality. You may need to clear the cache in your browser history My Workspace became Home (upper left corner) More Sites tab changed to a Sites icon on upper right In each course, Overview is the homepage. Allows movement back and forth across pages with additional flexibility. Continue to compose in Word. Allows user to show or diminish toolbar on left Requires fewer clicks in using some tools In Home or course, click Help buttons for resources Preferences process changed

Seeing a student showing indicators of risk? Contact Kathy at or as soon as you see risk behaviors. Literacy Initiative- need volunteers to read with elementary students 100/100 Challenge and Helping Hands Don’t hesitate or wait long before contacting Kathy.

12 Move-In and Kickstart Check messages from Reilly Turner. Help if you can. This builds priceless relationships. Advisors will follow Reilly’s schedule to register new students on Friday, Jan. 6, and Monday, Jan. 9. If you have students with any questions about advising, scheduling, or finances, encourage them to see their advisors, Registrar, or Financial Aid Office.

Faculty members met by college and in mixed groups in the Faculty Workshop on Thurs., Discussion led to great ideas and feedback. See the following slides for a picture of the strategic plan. Add your thoughts to the discussion by talking with your dean.

20 Academic Integrity Instructors shared challenges and ideas for preventing integrity issues and addressing the occasional lapses in judgment. See your dean for information or to discuss any questions about student behaviors in your course(s). When a student behaves without integrity in an assignment or assessment, complete the Academic Dishonesty Reporting Form available at forms.ovu.edu and send it to Terri Butterfield. Do not hesitate. Do it consistently. This is the only way we have to know if an occurrence is a first offense or one in a sequence. We’re here to transform lives.
