The supply chain and EDI
8
The supply chain and EDI
Supply chains consist of a variety of companies with different processes to conduct business (planning, ordering, shipping, billing, financial, etc.) Information and data needs to be exchanged between companies but it is often difficult because businesses use different technologies, systems and methods to do this. EDI or Electronic Data Interchange is the preferred globally accepted method for exchanging data between businesses. Many EDI standards are governed by non-profit organizations to provide a common “language” & method for communicating these processes between machines Examples of standards: EDIFACT, Tradacoms, ANSI-X12, XML
9
Manual processes vs. EDI
Supplier/Manufacturer Customer/Retailer Manual Processes Planning Schedules Shipping Schedules Purchase Orders Purchase Order Change Purchase Order Acknowledgments Advance Ship Notice Invoices Logistics $10-$15 per document, labor, chargebacks, delays in cash flow, inventory Secure Communications EDI Process XML, EDI, ASCII Purchase Orders Invoices, ASN Directly integrated with EPICOR, automated machine to machine, fast, error free, inexpensive, green
10
Business Needs Need to comply with a partner’s requirements to do business electronically Already do some kind of EDI, but it is difficult to manage new relationships Need to streamline and automate manual processes Rekey of business documents Billing Shipping Planning Looking to increase rating and visibility with key customers
11
What makes EDI difficult? (Q & A)
Lack of direct integration into my Epicor application TIE Kinetix has been specifically designed to work with Demand Management, Epicor legacy and Epicor Retail applications I need highly technical staff to manage TIE Kinetix and Epicor can manage the entire EDI system remotely at your facility or via our 24/7 global data center Integrations are difficult to maintain TIE Kinetix and Epicor provide updates to our customers as integrations change over time It is too expensive TIE Kinetix can normally run your complete EDI system for less than 50% of current “in-house” operational costs giving full ROI usually within 3-6 months
12
Benefits of EDI Reduces or Eliminates Manual Handling of Data, Web Portals, avoiding Errors and Reworks Reduces Cost Labor Paperless Time Better Cash Flow Improve Business Processes Shortens Response Times Lower Inventory Levels Reduction in the Ordering/Shipping time cycle Closer business partnerships
