Our mission is ‘to eliminate loneliness and isolation for older people. We do this by creating communities that care’.
MHA was established in 1943 and directly helps over 17,000 older people through our Care Homes, Retirement Living and our Live at Home schemes.

3. OUR HISTORY
1943
MHA founded by the Methodist Church to provide care, support and accommodation for older people in need
1988
First Live at Home initiative set up providing support to older people in their homes, through volunteers

4. OUR HISTORY
2000
Retirement living with care services established combining self-contained accommodation with care and support
2004
Community services set up to provide MHA’s dementia care to people living in their own homes

5. OUR HISTORY
2008
MHA employs its first in-house Music Therapist, to provide support for residents with dementia
2009
MHA acquires its first retirement village, Auchlochan, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland

2012
MHA wins Best Residential Care Provider at the Laing & Buisson Independent Healthcare Awards, and also the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award

MHA celebrates its Platinum Anniversary

Our focus is to create communities that care for older people. We re-invest all our surplus into activities and services that help reduce loneliness and isolation for older people.

11. LIVE AT HOME
For over 25 years, MHA has run Live at Home – local community projects aimed at helping older people to maintain their independence by providing them with a variety of services to enable them to live happily and healthily in their own homes.
Services at each scheme are shaped by local members’ needs
Currently 59 schemes throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Isle of Man, supporting 10,000 older people
Plans to support many more
