EILEAN DONAN CASTLE Eilean Donan is recognised as one of the most iconic images of Scotland all over the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands. By the 600s, it seems that the island here was the site of a monastic cell founded by the Irish bishop, St Donan: and the name Eilean Donan or "Island of Donan" has stuck ever since. The island has been fortified since at least the Iron Age, the castle you see today was only rebuilt from earlier ruins in the years between 1913 and The biggest surprise at Eilean Donan is finding that the reality far surpasses the image. The castle is much larger than it appears from photographs. This is really interesting and unique place to visit in Scotland.

URQUHART CASTLE AND LOCH NESS
Everybody know the legend about Nessie a monster which lives in depths of Loch Ness, but not everyone know that next to this lake there is a castle called Urquhart castle. It is wild natural beauty and 1,000 years of dramatic history. There you can experience and discover medieval life and enjoy stunning views over Loch Ness from the ruins of the greatest castle in the Highlands. The present ruins date from the 13th to the 16th centuries, though built on the site of an early medieval fortification. Founded in the 13th century, Urquhart played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century. In 1977 from a place close to the castle Anthony Shields allegedly saw Nessy.

Dunnottar was impregnable fortress that holds many rich secrets of Scotland’s colourful past. The dramatic and evocative ruined cliff top fortress was the home of the Earls Marischal, once one of the most powerful families in the land. Most famously event, at Dunnottar Castle was that a small garrison held out against the might of Cromwell’s army for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the ‘Honours of Scotland’, from destruction. The castle from movie Brave was probably based on Dunnottar castle and the action takes place in Scotland. Highland games, are traditional scottish sports, which are really originally. It's said the Highland Games originate from Ireland in 2000 BC and that they crossed the water to Scotland with the fourth and fifth century migrations of the Scotti into Dalriada and beyond. The Braemar Gathering, held in September, is the biggest and most prestigious Highland Games event and enjoys the annual attendance of the Royal Family. During the game competitiors have to wear kilt The competitive element is a major attraction in its own right but when combined with the spectacle of Highland dancers and pipers and the colour and grandeur of the Scottish scenery which forms their backdrop, Highland Games become a must on any visitor's Scotland itinerary. The most popular commonn sports in Scotland are football and rugby now. QUEEN ELIZABETH II ON BRAEMAR GATHERING
