1 THE Circular economy The Teardown Lab

2 Learning Objectives Discuss Design for Disassembly (DfD).
At the end of the Teardown Workshop, student/groups will be able to: Understand the basics of the Circular Economy Discuss Design for Disassembly (DfD). Design products that include DfD

3 What IS DFD? On a whiteboard write down 3 things that you know about Designing for Disassembly 2 mins – GO

4 Designing For Disassembly
Design Decisions. How have the components been joined together? Consider weight and prices of the material used what will they cost in the future How would you design to recuse the materials?

6 Designing for Disassembly
Now that you have successfully taken your product apart. Take photos of your product to. Explain: How the different parts were manufactured. How the product was assembled. Any other interesting information you may find.

7 Presenting your work At the end of the lesson you will need to feedback to the rest of the class, explaining what your product is and how it was made. One simple improvements can be made to the product to incorporate DfD You will be asked questions about your product so make sure you know your stuff!

8 Product Investigation: “Name of Product”
Image of product What is it? Some History? What are the parts made of? Why has this material been chosen? How are the parts manufactured? Cost and scale of production? How could it be designed for DfD? Environmental issues, safety etc.? Image of a part Useful diagram/chart
