Year 5 Junior Music Festival 2015 You Can’t Stop the Beat

Consider Yourself/Who Will Buy (from Oliver)
Consider yourself at home, consider yourself one of the family. We’ve taken to you so strong, it’s clear, we’re going to get along. Consider yourself well in; consider yourself part of the furniture. There isn’t a lot to spare; who cares? What/ever we’ve got we share! If it should chance to be we should see some harder days, Empty larder days, why grouse? Always a chance we’ll meet somebody to foot the bill, Then the drinks are on the house! Consider yourself our mate. We don’t want to have no fuss. For after some consideration, we can state: Consider yourself one of us.

Consider yourself at home, consider yourself one of the family.
We’ve taken to you so strong, it’s clear, we’re going to get along. Consider yourself well in; consider yourself part of the furniture. There isn’t a lot to spare; who cares? What/ever we’ve got we share! Nobody tries to be ‘lah-di-dah’ or uppity, There’s a cup o’ tea for all. Only it’s wise to be handy wiv a rolling pin, When the landlord comes to call! Consider yourself our mate. We don’t want to have no fuss. For after some consideration, we can state: Consider yourself one of us.
4
Who will buy this wonderful morning? Such a sky you never did see.
Who will tie it up with a ribbon and put it in a box for me? So I can see it at my leisure, whenever things go wrong, And I would keep it as a treasure to last my whole life long. Who will buy this wonderful feeling? I’m so high, I swear I could fly. Me, oh my, I don’t want to lose it, So what am I to do, to keep the sky so blue? There must be someone who will buy.
5
Who will buy? Who will buy? Who will buy? Who will buy?
Who will buy my sweet red roses, two blooms for a penny? Any milk today? Any milk today? Any milk today? Any milk today? Knives, knives to grind? Any knives to grind?
6
Who will buy this wonderful morning? Such a sky you never did see.
Who will tie it up with a ribbon and put it in a box for me? There’ll never be a day so sunny, it could not happen twice. Where is the man with all the money? It’s cheap at half the price? Who will buy this wonderful feeling? I’m so high, I swear I could fly. Me, oh my, I don’t want to lose it, So what am I to do, to keep the sky so blue? There must be someone who will buy.

Naughty (from Matilda)
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water, so they say. The subsequent fall was inevitable. They never stood a chance they were written that way. Innocent victims of their story.
8
Like Romeo and Juliet, ‘twas written in the stars before they even met
That love and fate and a touch of stupidity Would rob them of their hope of living happily. The endings are often a little bit gory. I wonder why they didn’t just change their story. We’re told we have to do what we’re told, but surely Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.
9
Just because you find that life’s not fair, it
Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it, nothing will change. Even if you’re little you can do a lot, you Mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you. If you sit around and let them get on top, you Might as well be saying you think that it’s okay, and that’s not right!
10
Cinderella, in the cellar, didn’t have to do much as far as I can tell.
Her Godmother was two thirds fairy, Suddenly her lot was a lot less scary. But what if you haven’t got a fairy to fix it? Sometimes you have to make a little bit of mischief!
11
Just because you find that life’s not fair, it
Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it, nothing will change. Even if you’re little you can do a lot, you Mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you. If you sit around and let them get on top, you Might as well be saying you think that it’s okay, and that’s not right! And if it’s not right, you have to put it right.
12
In the slip of a bolt, there’s a tiny revolt.
The seed of a war in the creak of a floorboard. A storm can begin with the flap of a wing. The tiniest mite packs the mightiest sting. Every day starts with the tick of a clock. All escapes start with the click of a lock. If you’re stuck in your story and want to get out, You don’t have to cry, you don’t have to shout!
13
‘Cos if you’re little you can do a lot, you
Mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you. If you sit around and let them get on top, you won’t change a thing. Just because you find that life’s not fair, it Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it, You might as well be saying you think that it’s okay, and that’s not right! And if it’s not right, you have to put it right. But nobody else is gonna put it right for me. Nobody but me is gonna change my story. Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.
14
Little People (from Les Miserables)
They laugh at me these fellows just because I am small. They laugh at me because I’m not a hundred feet tall! I tell ‘em there’s a lot to learn down here on the ground. The world is big but little people turn it around. A worm can roll a stone, a bee can sting a bear, A fly can fly around Versailles ‘cos flies don’t care! A sparrow in a hat can make a happy home; A flea can bite the bottom of the Pope in Rome!
15
Goliath was a bruiser who was tall as the sky,
But David threw a right and gave him one in the eye. I never read the Bible but I know that it’s true. It only goes to show what little people can do! A worm can roll a stone, a bee can sting a bear, A fly can fly around Versailles ‘cos flies don’t care! A sparrow in a hat can make a happy home; A flea can bite the bottom of the Pope in Rome! [Kazoos]
16
So listen here Professor, with your head in the cloud,
It’s often kind of useful to get lost in a crowd. So keep your universities you stuffy old man! For better or for worse it is the way that I am! Be careful as you go, ‘cos little people grow………! And little people know when little people fight We may be easy pickings but we got some bite! So never kick a dog because it’s just a pup. You better run for cover when the pup grows up! And we’ll fight like twenty armies and we won’t give up! [Kazoos]
17
A worm can roll a stone, a bee can sting a bear,
A fly can fly around Versailles ‘cos flies don’t care! A sparrow in a hat can make a happy home; A flea can bite the bottom of the Pope in Rome! A flea can bite the bottom of the Pope in…..IN ROME!

The Lion Sleeps Tonight (from The Lion King)
In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight. Weh, o weh o weh o wimmoweh Near the village, the peaceful village, the lion sleeps tonight. Weh, o weh … etc
19
Hush my baby, don’t fear my baby, the lion sleeps tonight.

20
The Bare Necessities (from The Jungle Book)
Look for the bare necessities the simple bare necessities, Forget about your worries and your strife. I mean the bare necessities, oh Mother Nature’s recipes That bring the bare necessities of life.
21
Wherever I wander, wherever I roam,
I couldn’t be fonder of my big home. The bees are buzzing in the tree to make some honey just for me. When you look under the rocks and plants, and take a look at the fancy ants And maybe try a few! The bare necessities of life will come to you, will come to you. Look for the bare necessities the simple bare necessities … etc
22
When you pick a pawpaw, or a prick(e)ly pear
And you prick a raw paw, next time beware. Don’t pick the prick(e)ly pear by the paw; when you pick a pear try to use the claw, But you don’t need to use the claw when you pick a pear of the big pawpaw. Now do you have a clue? The bare necessities of life will come to you, will come to you. (Band/kazoos for 35 bars then sing again as below) The bare necessities of life will come to you, will come to you, will come to you. The bare necessities of life will come to you.
23
Feed the Birds (from Mary Poppins)
Early each day to the steps of St Paul’s the little old bird woman comes. In her own special way to the people she calls: “Come buy my bags full of crumbs. Come feed the little birds, show them you care, You’ll be so glad if you do. Their young ones are hungry, their nests are so bare; All it takes is tuppence from you. Feed the birds, tuppence a bag, tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag. Feed the birds,” that’s what she cries, while overhead her birds fill the skies.
24
Part 2 All around the cathedral the saints and apostles look down as she sells her wares. Although you can’t see it, you know they are smiling Each time someone shows that they care. Though her words are simple and few, listen, listen she’s calling to you. “Feed the birds, tuppence a bag, tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag. Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag. Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.” Part 1 La la la, la la la…(etc), La la la, la la la…(etc to bar 66 then sing again bar 67) Though her words are simple and few, listen she’s calling to you. “Feed the birds for tuppence a bag, for tuppence, tuppence a bag. Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag. Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.”
25
Beauty and the Beast (from Beauty and the Beast)
Tale as old as time, true as it can be. Barely even friends, then somebody bends unexpectedly. Just a little change, small to say the least. Both a little scared, neither one prepared, Beauty and the Beast. Ever just the same, ever a surprise, Ever as before, ever just as sure as the sun will rise.
26
Tale as old as time, tune as old as song.
Bitter sweet and strange, finding you can change, learning you were wrong. Certain as the sun rising in the east. Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme. Beauty and the Beast. Ever just the same, ever a surprise, Ever as before, ever just as sure as the sun will rise.
27
A tale as old as time, a tune as old as song.
Instrumental with descant part over – everyone to sing this (on CD played by vocal keyboard sound not sung but will be taught at area rehearsals) Descant words: A tale as old as time, a tune as old as song. Bitter sweet and strange, finding you can change, learning you were wrong. As certain as the sun. Tale as old as time; song of Beauty and the Beast. Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme. Beauty and the Beast.
28
Bruce (from Matilda) I can see that a slice, or even two, Bruce, Might‘ve been nice, but even you, Bruce, Have to admit between you and it there’s not a lot of difference in size. He can’t! He can! He surely can’t! He surely can’t! You are the man BRUCE! He might explode! He’s quite elastic. He’s going to blow! Make him stop! He’s fantastic! Look at him go! I can’t watch!
29
I think in effect this must confirm, Bruce,
What we all suspected - you have a worm, Bruce. Or maybe your largeness is a bit like a tardis: considerably roomier inside. He can’t! He can! He surely can’t! He surely can’t! YOU ARE THE MAN BRUCE!
30
Bruce! The time has come to put that tumb(e)ly tum to use.
You produce, Bruce, fantastic’ly enthusiastic gastric juice! Oh….eat it up! Lick it up! Suck it up! Whatever you do, don’t chuck it up and muck it up! Come on Bruce be our hero. Cover yourself in choc’late glory!
31
Bruce! You’ll never again be subject to abuse for your immense caboose.
She’ll call a truce, Bruce. With every swallow you are tightening the noose. We never thought it was possible, but here it is coming true: We can have our cake and eat it too.
32
The time has come to put that tumb(e)ly tum to use.
No excuse, Bruce. Let out your belt, I think you’ll want your trousers loose. Ohhh stuff it in! You’re almost finished! You’ll fit it in! Whatever you do, just don’t give in! Don’t let her win! Come on Bruce be our hero. Cover yourself in choc’late glory.
33
Ohhhhh Bruce! You’ll never again be subject to abuse for your immense caboose.
She’ll call a truce, Bruce. Just one more bite and you’ll‘ve completely cooked her goose. We never thought it was possible, but here it is coming true: We can have our cake and eat it….ah, ah, ah, ah.
34
Mama Mia (from Mama Mia)
I’ve been cheated by you since I don’t know when, So I made up my mind it must come to an end. Look at me now, will I ever learn? I don’t know how, but I suddenly lose control, There’s a fire within my soul. Just one look and I can hear a bell ring, One more look and I forget ev’rything, oh, oh.
35
Mamma mia, here I go again, my my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again, my my, just how much I’ve missed you? Yes I’ve been broken hearted, blue since the day we parted, Why why, did I ever let you go? Mamma mia, now I really know, my my, I could never let you go.
36
I’ve been angry and sad about the things that you do,
I can’t count all the times that I’ve told you we’re through. And when you go, when you slam the door, I think you know that you won’t be away too long, You know that I’m not that strong. Just one look and I can hear a bell ring, One more look and I forget ev’rything, oh, oh.
37
Mamma mia, here I go again, my my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again, my my, just how much I’ve missed you? Yes I’ve been broken hearted, blue since the day we parted, Why why, did I ever let you go? Mamma mia, even if I say bye bye leave me now or never. Mamma mia, it’s a game we play, bye bye, doesn’t mean forever.
38
Yes I’ve been broken hearted, blue since the day we parted,
Why why, did I ever let you go? Mamma mia, now I really know, my my, I could never let you go.
39
Climb Every Mountain (from The Sound of Music)
Climb ev’ry mountain, search high and low, Follow ev’ry byway, ev’ry path you know. Climb ev’ry mountain, ford ev’ry stream, Follow ev’ry rainbow, ‘till you find your dream. A dream that will need all the love you can give, Ev’ry day of your life for as long as you live.
40
Part 1 Climb ev’ry mountain, search high and low, Follow ev’ry byway, ev’ry path you know. Climb ev’ry mountain, ford ev’ry stream, Follow ev’ry rainbow, ‘till you find your dream. A dream that will need all the love you can give, Ev’ry day of your life for as long as you live. You find your dream. Part 2 Climb ev’ry mountain, search high and low, Follow ev’ry byway, ev’ry path you know. Climb ev’ry mountain, ford ev’ry stream, Follow ev’ry rainbow, ‘till you find your dream. Dream that will need the love you can give. All the love you can give. Ev’ry day of your life, your life. You find your dream.

When I Grow Up (from Matilda)
When I grow up, I will be tall enough to reach the branches That I need to reach to climb the trees you get to climb when you’re grown up. And when I grow up, I will be smart enough to answer all the Questions that you need to know the answers to before you’re grown up.
42
And when I grow up I will eat sweets ev’ry day on the way to work
And I will go to bed late ev’ry night. (Pt 1) And I will wake up, (Pt 2) And I will wake up, (Both) when the sun comes up And I will watch cartoons until my eyes go square And I won’t care ‘cos I’ll be all grown up, when I grow up.
43
(Pt 1) When I grow up, (Pt 2) When I grow up, (Pt 1) When I grow up
(Both) I will be strong enough to carry all the heavy things you have to haul around With you when you’re a grown up. (Pt 1) And when I grow up, (Pt 2) When I grow up, (Pt 1) When I grow up (Both) I will be brave enough to fight the creatures That you have to fight beneath the bed each night to be a grown up.
44
(Pt 1) And when I grow up, (Pt 2) And when I grow up,
(Both) I will have treats ev’ry day and I’ll play with things that mum pretends that Mums don’t think are fun. (Pt 1) And I will wake up, (Pt 2) And I will wake up (Both) When the sun comes up and I will spend all day just lying in the sun And I won’t burn ‘cos I’ll be all grown up when I grow up.
45
Part 1 When I grow up nothing will change. Just because I find myself in this story It doesn’t mean that everything is written for me. If I think the ending is fixed already I might as well be saying I think that it’s OK. And that’s not right! And if it’s not right you have to put it right. But nobody else is gonna put it right for me. Nobody but me is gonna change my story. Sometimes you have to be a little bit (Maggots!) naughty. Part 2 Just because you find that life’s not fair, it Doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it, nothing will change. When I grow up I think that it’s OK And that’s not right! And if it’s not right you have to put it right. But nobody else is gonna put it right for me. Nobody but me is gonna change my story. Sometimes you have to be a little bit (Maggots!) naughty.

Just Can’t Stop the Beat (from Hairspray)
You can’t stop an avalanche as it races down the hill. You can try to stop the seasons girl, but you know you never will. And you can try to stop my dancin’ feet, but I just cannot stand still. ‘Cos the world keeps spinning round and round, And my heart’s keeping time to the speed of sound. I was lost ‘til I heard the drums, then I found my way. ‘Cos you can’t stop the beat! Ever since this old world began, A woman found out if she shook it, she could shake up a man. So I’m gonna shake and shimmy it the best that I can today, ‘Cos you can’t stop the motion of the ocean or the sun in the sky. You can wonder if you wanna but I never ask why. And if you try to hold me down, I’m gonna spit in your eye and say That you can’t stop the beat!
47
You can’t stop a river as it rushes to the sea.
You can try to stop the hands of time, but ya know it just can’t be. And if they try to stop us, Seaweed, I’ll call the N double ACP! ‘Cos the world keeps spinning round and round, And my heart’s keeping time to the speed of sound. I was lost ‘til I heard the drums, then I found my way. ‘Cos you can’t stop the beat! Ever since we first saw the light, A man and woman like to shake it on a Saturday night And so I’m gonna shake and shimmy it with all of my might today, ‘Cos you can’t stop the motion of the ocean or the rain from above. You can try to stop the paradise we’re dreaming of, But you cannot stop the rhythm of two hearts in love to stay,
48
You can’t stop my happiness, ‘cos I like the way I am.
And you just can’t stop my knife and fork when I see a Christmas ham. So if you don’t like the way I look, well I just don’t give a damn! And so I’m gonna shake and shimmy it the best that I can today, ‘Cos you can’t stop the motion of the ocean or the sun in the sky. You can wonder if you wanna but I never ask why. And if you try to hold me down, I’m gonna spit in your eye and say That you can’t stop the beat!
49
Ever since we first saw the sun,
A man and woman like to shake it when the day is done. So we’re gonna shake and shimmy it and have some fun today. You can’t stop the motion of the ocean or the rain from above. They can try to stop the paradise we’re dreaming of, But you cannot stop the rhythm of two hearts in love to stay, (Part 1) ‘Cos you can’t stop the beat (Part 2) You can’t stop the beat (Part 1) You can’t stop the beat (All) Can’t stop the beat!
