Patient #1: 11 yr-old epileptic boy
Problem: Seizures despite anti-seizure medication. Seizures come from malfunctioning tissues in the brain. Structure of brain looks ‘normal’, though. Treatment can be done only when it is clear which part of the brain is affected.

Patient #2: 25-yr old female
Suspected diagnosis: Shattered ankle. Bones out of place, lots of swollen tissue around the bone. Surgery would need to be done before bones set, or bones would have to be rebroken and set properly.

Patient #3: 35-yr old female
Suspected diagnosis: Stomach ulcer A stomach ulcer is an open sore in the soft lining of the stomach. Sores are caused by bacteria living in the stomach.

Patient #4: 45-yr old male Suspected Diagnosis: Lung Cancer
Involves tumours (lumps of soft tissue) in the lungs. Tumours have extra blood vessels, compared to normal tissue. Survival rate is good if treatment is started soon.

Patient #5: 18-yr old male Suspected diagnosis: Giardiasis (Traveller’s diarrhea) Giardia is a microscopic parasite that is ingested through contaminated water. It causes diarrhea and dehydration. Parasites are eliminated in feces (poop). Treatments can only be given if giardia is proven to be the cause of the diarrhea.
