1 Junior and Intermediate 4-H Record Books

2 Overview of Recordbooks
There are three levels of recordbooks Junior, Intermediate, Senior The forms are age appropriate and build on each other. All information from H year will be in this year’s forms only Each of the past year’s information will be on their own year’s forms

3 Overview of Recordbooks
Forms may be completed by downloading from the Texas 4‐H website and the county website at achievement-awards/ Record Books will still be printed and turned in to be judged Judged by what’s in them, not how they look Photo captions not required but allowed Can use either Word forms or handwritten Dividers for Years ARE ALLOWED

4 Recordbook Categories for 2015-2016
Agricultural Sciences (Includes LSJ) Beef Citizenship and Civic Education Clothing and Textiles Communicative and Expressive Arts Companion Animal Consumer Education Entomology Family Life Food and Nutrition Gardening and Horticulture Goat Health Horse Leadership Natural Resources Personal Development Photography Plant and Soil Science Public Speaking Poultry Rabbits Recreation Science, Engineering and Technology Sheep Shooting Sports Swine Vet Science Wildlife and Fisheries

6 JUNIOR Recordbook (4-H Age: 3rd to 5th grade)
Focus on 1 main project for current 4-H year Other project areas, if any, can be included in Diary, Story, and Photos Required documents: Personal Information Page Junior Report Form (story is part of Report Form) Photos pages (up to 3 pages) Judging: Turn in required documents with current year information only Judging will be focused on 1 main project in current year only

10 INTERMEDIATE Recordbook (4-H Age: 6th- 8th Grade)
Focus on 1 main project for The last two 4-H years Other project areas, if any, can be included in Personal Journal, Summary of Activities and Story/Photos Required documents: Personal Information Page Intermediate Report Form 4-H Story & Photo Portfolio Judging: Turn in required documents with current year information only Judging will be focused on 1 main project and other project work/activities for up to 2 years Can be all put on the new forms Modeled after old Member Achievement Plan (MAP)

14 Intermediate and Junior Details
Diary of 4-H Events in Junior Book can contain experiences from other projects, but should focus mostly on your main project The same goes for the personal journal in the intermediate book No limit to the length of these sections Intermediates will need to fill out the story and photo portfolio Juniors: Story is part of report form Include up to 3 pages of photos behind report form Intermediates & Seniors: Story & Photo Portfolio separate document from report forms Up to 10 pages of text and photos (captions no longer required on photos) Can have up to 6 additional pages of photos for photography

16 Transitioning Between Age Divisions & Judging
Each year a member will add their new report forms and other required documents on top of old report forms. For Judging: All Ages – Updated Personal Information page will be completed every year Juniors – Only current year report forms will be judged Intermediates - 2 most current years report forms will be judged Intermediates– New Story & Photo Portfolio will be completed every year

17 Judging of Recordbooks
Rubric/chart format to allow judges to ‘check a box’ that best describes their assessment of each section of the book Still allows space for written comments (next to each section and on back of scoresheet) Member should be able to tell what areas need improvement based on check marks and comments

18 Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What would not count as a project experience? School, Internet, books, etc Can I use dividers for the years’ forms? Yes, you may use dividers to divide the years’ forms

Question: What are the Basic Rules for making my Recordbook? Minimum 10pt font, 12 is better At least 3 pages photos with or without captions…should mostly be on main project Margins…1 on right, top, bottom-1.5 on left No cardstock or construction paper Question: Which information from which years do I put in my Recordbook? All of the information from will go on the forms…no info from prior years!
