Introduction Simple substitution cipher for symbols based on a grid.
Encryption system developed by the Freemasons.
4
History Developed in 18th century AD.
Used by the Freemasons for keeping record-keeping and correspondence private Correspondence - Non-concurrent, remote communication between people Freemasonary is a fraternal organisation that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century. The various forms all share moral and metaphysical ideals, which include, in most cases, a constitutional declaration of belief in a Supreme Being.[3]
5
History 1860s – American Civil War
Became popular for encrypting messages
6
History Origins of “PIGPEN” Monoalphabetic Key can be changed
the letters of the alphabet – the “pigs” are trapped within the lines – the “pens.” The shapes made by these “pens” either with or without a dot, represent the letters inside.

Advantages Variability Easy for encrypting party
Easy for receiving party pigpen cipher advantages : firstly, different keys can be used, so it can be varied gabriel Simply Exquisite- when the skies turn red says: second, it is easy to encrypt in comparison to modern day complicated ones third, it is easy for the receiving party to read it once they have the cipher keys (legends) disadvantages : firstly, it is monoalphabetic (meaning only one alphabet assigned to one symbol), thus easy for hackers to crack the code Next, once the code is easily cracked as mentioned above, the encrypted documents can be read like an open book it is easily cracked too by using fundamental methods like "frequency analysis" , which gabriel will talk about later on.

Disadvantages Monoalphabetic Not sophisticated enough Easily cracked
