2. Overview
Cañada serves approximately 180 military affiliated students (veterans, active duty, reservists, and dependents)
Approximately 50 students utilize their VA education benefits
Underserved and disproportionately impacted student group – Student Equity
Needs: transition support, academic and career training, student support, and camaraderie
VROC is staffed by a .20 (7.5 hrs/wk) VROC Program Services Coordinator
Additional support includes:
Certifying Official/Admissions & Records Staff
Veterans/Athletics Counselor
VROC Peer Mentor (student assistant)

3. Staffing Request Proposing a 1.0 FTE VROC Program Services Coordinator

Step 27, Step 1 $58,092
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan and implement student recruitment, orientation, special events, individual and specialized programs
Manage VROC’s budget and identify funding to sustain and implement effective programming
Develop partnerships with campus community, community services, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and other potential partners
Provide direct service to veterans and other military affiliated students in VROC
Coordinate campus-wide trainings to increase military cultural awareness and support
Manage data collection and analysis
Work with Skyline College and College of San Mateo to implement a district-wide strategy

5. Impact of 1.0 FTE VROC PSC College of San Mateo Skyline College
July 1, 2015-July ,999 VROC visits compared to 4,750 for the entire first 3 years it was open.
New services include:
New student information sessions
Events related to scholarships and internships
Partnerships with Veteran Services Organization and community resources
Mentor programs for transfer opportunities
Student Veteran Leadership Conference
Skyline College
Hosts Annual Veterans and Community Resource and Job Fair

6. SMCCCD District-Wide Efforts
SMCCCD District Wide Veteran Services Meetings
Unified approach to serving students (~700+) within the district
CSAAVE, common forms, BANNER reports
Regional and state efforts and representation
Increased communication between VROC Program Services Coordinators and Certifying Officials
Improve data reporting and collection
Changes to CCC apply to increase self-reporting
