Goals of Lady Wolves athletics
To develop overall as well as sport specific skills for the young ladies to move on and be successful at the next level To build winning teams and programs Most importantly, to develop strong character traits in self-discipline, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, and citizenship to name just a few

When are the different seasons? Football / Volleyball August – October Cross Country November – December Basketball November - February Track / Tennis February – April Soccer April - May

When are the tryouts? Tryouts for each sport happen at the very beginning of each season. For example, volleyball tryouts will began the first week of school. Basketball tryouts will begin after the conclusion of the previous seasons. Cross Country and Track tryouts are ongoing weekly.

How many people make each team? This varies based upon each sport. Volleyball – maximum Basketball maximum Cross Country – 7 “A” team, No limits for “B” Track – 3 people per event each meet Tennis – (combined grades) Soccer – (1 team from combined 7th & 8th)- No cut, all allowed to practice, but only selected for each game, all will play in at LEAST 1 game.

What do they do if they are not in a certain sport? Students must participate in two of the sports that are offered. If she does not make a travel team for volleyball, she can participate in PDL or off-season. For basketball, she will participate in cross country and conditioning if she doesn’t make the travel team. (Minimum practices are required to earn weekly grade and credit)

Are there before/after school practices? Yes. Students must be prepared to practice before or after school during each season. 7th grade teams begin practice at 6:30 a.m. 8th grade teams begin practice during the last period and may stay as late at 5:00 p.m. Cross country practices have options of before or after. Track field events/Tennis/Soccer are all after school.

What nights are the games? Schedules vary by sport and are determined by the Athletic Directors of the three school districts in which we compete. All schedules are available on RankOne.

How many sports do they have to participate in? Every student must participate in at least 2 sports. Volleyball and Cross Country are both non-cut sports – students will not be cut. (Participation in competitions may have additional minimum requirements).

Can they just take one semester of Athletics? NO. Athletics is a two-semester course. Students may not drop out of Athletics at any time throughout the school year.

What if they are in band/choir/dance/cheer? Other school related activities will not be affected by participation in Athletics and your role in Athletics will not be affected by them. As coaches, we work closely with the sponsors of these other groups in order to make sure students can participate in all activities that they would like to experience and to be able to benefit from each one.

Do they run every day? YES. 7th grade trains at miles per day. 8th grade trains at a minimum of 2 miles per day. (If you do not want to run, Athletics is not the right fit.)

Do they have to be a good athlete? No. They simply must be willing to participate and work hard every day. As middle school coaches, we are here to teach the athletes the skills and sports to prepare them for high school and future athletic endeavors. It is a learning and developing process. However, they must put forth their best effort daily and they will improve.

Do I have to be in Athletics to play ___________? Only students who make a volleyball, football, basketball, & the track team MUST be in the Athletic period to participate. However, missing out on the Athletic period also means missing out on key conditioning and strength training to improve your abilities in other sports.

The year / seasons – step by step
August – November - Volleyball season – Practice 5 days/week. We will include 1 day of distance running. - W.O.L.V.E.S. Program aka PDL, will continue to improve volleyball skills with practices 2 days/week and 1 game/week. AND they will begin an overall conditioning program 3 days a week and begin preparing for the Cross Country & basketball season.

~ November 1st (approx.) - Basketball tryouts - Cross Country begins - Anyone who does not make basketball will automatically participate in Cross Country. There are no options. - Cross country practices during the class period unless you want to compete in Basketball and Cross Country. If you are doing both, you are required to attend 2 CC practices per week (before or after school).

January - Basketball Continues - Cross Country begins overall conditioning as the season has concluded.

Mid- February - Track season begins - Athletes will be timed in all running events and placed into workout groups - Running workouts are during the class period - Field events take place after school only (optional) - Tennis season begins after school only

Mid- April - Soccer begins after school (7th and 8th grade combined team) - 2 practices (1 before & 1 after school) & 1 game per week - Off season workouts begin for everyone in Athletics - Review of Volleyball and Basketball - Strength and Conditioning training - 8th grade begins training with GHS coaches

Game Day Meal Forms Our Booster club does a wonderful job of finding the best deals! We will send home Game Day Meal Forms. The meals usually cost around $6/meal and there will be a meal provided before every game. All game day meals brought by parents need to be delivered to front office. Students may not wait by gym doors

Transportation/Cell Phone Policy
GCISD will provide transportation to and from all athletic events (except for tournaments). All players are required to ride the bus to each game. It is important that we support each other as a program. We will collect cell phones after school and return them after all of the games are completed. However, they will be allowed to keep their laptops (for homework purposes only). Athletes will be able to work on homework at games in the stands. They must remain in the stands or designated area during games when they are not playing. We encourage our athletes to ride the bus back to CTMS. However, players may be signed out by a parent after all three games have completed. We must have an or note 24 hours in advance if you wish to ride home with another parent.

Grading Policy Students will be given a grade every 3 week grading period. Students start with a "100" and points are earned/deducted daily on the following scale: Participation = 5 points Preparation = 5 points Jewelry = -2 points **preparation means correct clothing, hair up, no jewelry, and on time.

Clothing Girls Athletics and PE clothing are the same: - Solid Gray shirt with the black logo - Shirts from previous years are also acceptable - Shorts must be the black shorts with the CTMS logo on them - School appropriate length - Spandex (black) for volleyball (must have shorts over the spandex when outside of the gym)

Clothing - Black sweats ONLY - Proper Athletic Shoes - Socks
- Proper under garments - Sport specific equipment will either be issued or you may purchase your own - Colors need to be neutral (black, white, gray)

Student Athlete Code of conduct
Members of the Cross Timbers Middle School Athletic Program need to conduct themselves in a manner that will bring pride and honor to CROSS TIMBERS MIDDLE SCHOOL, the athletic program, and the Grapevine-Colleyville Community. No athlete has the right to do or say anything that might hurt, embarrass, or degrade themselves, his/her family, teammates, coaches, teachers, or school. Detrimental conduct will be handled with the appropriate disciplinary action.

Tryouts statement Tryouts for teams at Cross Timbers Middle School are highly competitive. With this in mind, team members should understand that the CTMS teams should take priority over any club team affiliation. CTMS players should never miss a practice or game due to a club team obligation. Any player who violates this rule could be subject to immediate dismissal.

Injury/Illness Students sitting out are still expected to dress out in their Athletic gear for the day. Students on a travel squad are still expected to be in attendance for the full practice time. Parent notes will excuse participation for up to two days maximum at a time. Only two parent notes are allowed per grading period. If a student will be out for more than two days, a doctor's note is necessary for their well-being.

Absences You can only make up 3 missed practices by attending a practice of the opposite grade (before the next game). You must check with both coaches first. If you miss 4 practices, you must make it up and you will have to sit out for 1 full rotation or the first ½ of the next game. If you miss 5 practices, you will sit out of the following game.

Conflict resolution guidelines
This section is included for conflict resolution purposes between PLAYER and COACH or PARENT and COACH. Any conflict should be addressed in accordance to the following protocol: 1. Have the athlete talk to the coach. Then #2 2. Parent conference with the coach involved. THEN #3 3. Parent conference with the campus Athletic Coordinator. THEN #4 4. Parent conference with the Asst. Principal in charge of athletics and/or the high school Athletic Coordinator. THEN #5 5. Parent conference with the Campus Principal.

Volunteers/Concession Stand Workers
We will need parents to sign up to help with Concession Stand Workers throughout the entire year. The coaching staff will set up a “Sign-Up Genius” online, however, we will need a parent for each sport to help organize this fundraiser. We would not be able to have a concession stand if it weren’t for you, so thank you in advance for your help!

Booster Club Please join our amazing Booster Club! Cost $25 annually per household Money goes towards providing CTMS student-athletes with the best resources available. This comes in the form of equipment and uniforms as well as tournament entry fees to name a few things.
