8. Monochromatic The simplest color harmony
Uses a single hue from the standard color wheel
Achieved by changing the value and/or intensity of the hue
Accents of black, white and other neutrals will add interest to the room.
Will make a room appear larger
Can unify the furnishings and accessories used in the space

10. Analogous
Made by combining related hues; any 3 to 5 hues next to each other on the color wheel
Since the colors are related, one color seems to blend into another
Looks best if one color is the dominant color
Can also use tiny amounts of an unrelated color as an accent

12. Complementary
Two colors that are positioned directly opposite each other on the color wheel
Complements are contrasting colors that make each other look brighter and more intense: when blue is used next to orange, the blue looks bluer, and the orange looks stronger
Creates a dramatic effect with high contrast.
Looks best if one color is dominant.
To lower a color’s intensity, add it’s compliment
Ex: To lower the intensity of red, add a small amount of green

14. Split-Complementary
Made when one hue is used with the two hues adjacent to its compliment.

16. Double Complementary Selecting two colors and their complements
4 colors are used

18. Triadic
Uses any three colors that are equally distant from each other on the color wheel.
The primary colors: yellow, blue, and red
The secondary colors: green, orange, violet
Changing values and intensities can lessen the sharp contrast

20. Neutral Composed of hues that are not found on the color wheel.
Black, white and gray are not found on the color wheel, but they are the basis for this type of color harmony.
Brown, tan, and beige can also be used.

22. Accented Neutral
Small amounts of color added to neutral color schemes to give the room more contrast and interest.
