1 Philippians For Times Like These
#6 – Never Put To Shame

2 Two Ways To live without shame
Live godly and rise above shame. Descend so deeply into sin we forget how to blush. Which will we choose?

3 Paul’s great expectation
Philippians 1:  for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

4 Two Faces Of Shame Shame as a gift from God for repentance
Isaiah 47:2-3 – “Take the millstones and grind meal. Remove your veil, strip off the skirt, uncover the leg, cross the rivers. Your nakedness will be uncovered, your shame will also be exposed; I will take vengeance and will not spare a man.”

5 Isaiah 48:18-19 “If only you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your well-being would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. Your descendants would have been like the sand, and your offspring like its grains; their name would never be cut off or destroyed from My presence.”

6 Jeremiah 3:25 “Let us lie down in our shame, and let our humiliation cover us; for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day. And we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.”

7 Shame as a curse from satan
Zephaniah 2:1 – “Gather yourselves together, yes, gather, O nation without shame….” Zephaniah 3:8 – “In that day you will feel no shame because of all your deeds by which you have rebelled against Me….”

8 Philippians 3:18-19 “For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.

9 Forgetting how to blush
Jeremiah 6:15 – “Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done? They were not even ashamed at all; they did not even know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall….”

10 We Can be motivated by shame
1 Corinthians 15:34 – “Become sober- minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.”

11 Power to live above shame
Through prayer Philippians 1:19a – “…for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers….”

12 Colossians 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding… 2 Thessalonians 1:11 – “To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling….”

13 Hebrews 13:18 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things….”

14 the provision of the spirit
V. 19b -- …through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ John 14:16-17, 26 – “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper…the Spirit of truth…He abides with you and will be in you….He will teach you all things….”

15 Through hope V. 20a -- according to my earnest expectation and hope
Hebrews 6:19 --This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil….

16 Through Boldness V. 20b -- but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. Ephesians 6:20 --for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

17 Exalting Christ in our bodies
Matthew 10: “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.”

18 Romans 10:9-10 “…that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

19 By Obedience John 14:15 – “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

20 By Surrender in life and death
Romans 8:13 – “…for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 14:7-8 – “For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”
