2 What is Mindfulness? Paying more attention to the present moment – to your own thoughts and feelings, and to the world around you – can improve your mental wellbeing. Some people call this awareness "mindfulness". Mindfulness can help us enjoy life more and understand ourselves better. You can take steps to develop it in your own life" (NHS)

3 Where does the idea come from?
Has its roots in Buddhism and the practice of meditation No longer necessarily linked to any religion Used as therapy in the USA since the 1970’s

4 What is it supposed to do?
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs are designed to assist with stress Can also be helpful for people suffering from chronic pain and illness

5 How can it help? Research has shown that MBSR techniques can help you sleep better and feel: More energised Less anxious More engaged in your work Less physical symptoms of stress Example image

6 How do I go about it trying it?
There are online courses e.g. Guided sessions can be found on youtube e.g. Examples of self-help exercises can be found on our resource page Find a therapist locally
