Goals for Today Pick up the half-sheet of blank paper at the front of the room—for your warmup problems Check Homework Show me your homework to get a homework stamp Go over questions from homework Essential Questions New material Examples/Homework Assignment—Handout
3
Warmup problems—work on the half-sheet of paper to turn in
Write this equation in standard form. Write this equation in slope-intercept form. Find the x-intercept and the y-intercept for this equation.

Homework Questions?
5
Essential Questions How do I solve an equation for a given variable? (These are called “literal equations.”) How do I solve inequalities?
6
Notes Solving literal equations means getting the variable of interest all by itself. You simply “undo” all of the operations to get the variable alone. Example: Solve the following equation for b1 HOW???
7
Literal Equations You have to get the b1 by itself. That means we need to move the ½, the h, and the b2 to the other side. Undo each operation.
8
Practice Solve each equation below for g:
9
Solving Inequalities This is like solving an equation with the following exceptions: You have one of the following operators instead of “equals” ≤, ≥, <, OR > When you multiply or divide to solve an inequality, you have to flip the sign of the inequality: e.g.
