What is DreamBox Learning Math?
Students are always learning in an age-appropriate environment. If you have a 7th grader who needs support in 5th grade content, that student will receive their instruction with engagements appropriate for their age. The same is true for a 3rd grader who may be ready for a 6th grade content.
6
What is 29 + 72? 911 111 91 2,972 Student regroups but double counts
Unlike other learning products, DreamBox goes beyond tracking only right and wrong answers. Using virtual manipulatives, DreamBox continuously analyzes and understands student thinking during the learning process, understanding what strategies students are using, where their gaps are, and when they are ready for increased challenges. With this deep understanding, DreamBox identifies trajectory, pace, and path to build competency and confidence, responding to students and providing the right level of scaffolding at the right time. Student regroups but double counts Student doesn’t regroup items Student adds each value independently Student combines all digits
7
Why Dreambox Learning? Adapts to individual learners
Individualized math lessons on the web Gives opportunities to build number sense and number fluency Can be accessed from anywhere that has internet and on many platforms (ipads/computers/laptops) Fun and engaging math lessons
8
How does your child use Dreambox at school?
Dreambox is being used during: Math rotations- independent time Centers (Kindergarten) Technology class Breakfast Indoor recess
9
Home Usage: Expectations & Tips
The only person who should be playing on your child’s account, is your child. Once your child starts a lesson, they need to complete it. Otherwise DreamBox can’t tailor the next lesson to meet their needs. Tips Remind your child that it’s okay to make mistakes! When they’re stuck, have them click the help/hint button. Plan at least 15 minutes for each section. Expectations The only person that should be playing on your child’s account, is your child. That means YOU shouldn’t be completing the lesson for them. Be sure to keep an eye out to make sure their siblings aren’t playing on their account…because the lessons will adapt the level of difficulty to the user. Once your child starts a lesson, they need to complete it. Otherwise DreamBox can’t tailor the next lesson to meet their needs. Even if your child is struggling with a lesson, hold them accountable to complete the lesson. DreamBox depends on lesson completion to determine the ‘right next lesson’. If they get several answers wrong in a row, the program will often recognize that the level is too hard and will often exit them out early. Then the next lesson they see will be at a more appropriate learning level. If your child finds the math too easy, the program will also adapt to increase the level of difficulty. Tips Remind your children that it’s okay to make mistakes! Mistakes are a part of the learning process When they’re stuck, have them click the help/hint button. DreamBox provides additional support/scaffolding by providing the help/hint button Allow for 15+ minute sessions. The time it takes to complete a lesson will vary, but as long as you block out at least 15 minutes, your child should have time to complete at least 1 lesson.

Additional ways you can support your child
Encourage your child to try their best Conference with your child Look at your child’s progress Discuss the importance of doing it at home Need to use it: K-2: about 60 minutes a week to make progress Gr. 3-5: about 90 minutes a week to make progress

We have only had 41% of our 4th grade families update their child’s emergency information, which means 52 fourth grade students have not completed it yet. Even if nothing is new, you still must log in this year to review the information and click update. Let’s be the first grade to reach 100%!! Visit the computer lab before you leave this evening to update your family file.
