3. What is a Search Engine?
Each search engine keeps a database of sites & keywords
Webcrawlers/spiders gather info
Each generates a list of results
Bing, Google, Yahoo, etc.
Results may vary between engines
Note that at the top of many results pages are ADS!

Sends query to other search engines & shows you results from all in one place
Dogpile & Kayak

Disadvantage: It chooses what it thinks is the best results from the search engines
